I recognize many of those artists by name, but 'Now That We Found Love' by Heavy D and the Boyz is the only one I know by title.  It's a cover of the 70s song of the same name by Third World.  I know both versions, and though I am not a big rap fan, I really enjoyed Heavy D's version

I know "Now That We Found Love", but that's about it. I remember "OPP" by Naughty by Nature and "Woo-hah! (Got You All In Check)" by Busta Rhymes more than the ones you listed.

Does anyone remember this one?:

Didn't think so...

Also, Cypress Hill shouldn't be forgotten. Here's their most popular song:

My all-time fave rap song of the 90s:  'Let Your Backbone Slide' by Maestro Fresh Wes.  He was a Canadian rapper, and in 1990 went to #1 in Canada with this song.  Dunno if it saw action outside of Canada, so check it out.  It's awesome, isn't it :)

No offense, Whistledog, but i didnt know they had rappers up there in Canada.  Maybe border towns in the US may know Maestro.  I am in the northeast US where New York City drove most of the rap music in the 80's and 90's.

Maestro probably wouldn't mess with these guys from California.

The Polar Bears ate the eskimos, and then the trees fell on the Polar Bears.  Now we're nothing but open field everywhere :D

I remember some of the songs mentioned (Black Sheep, Das EFX come to mind). They take me back to the days of Yo! MTV Raps... Here's a few more that I can recall:

WARNING: These songs may contain swearing or strong/bad language!

Cypress Hill - Hand On The Pump
Cypress Hill - How I Could Just Kill a Man
Tim Dog - Step To Me

(BTW: I have both ^ albums... :-Self Destruction

And now for something completely different: J.J. Fad - Supersonic

I believe this one wasn't as big in US as it was over here: Del Tha Funkee Homosapien - Mistadobalina

...and while US were dealing with the whole Eastcoast/Westcoast rivalry, we kept it clean with our own rappers.
These are the most popular acts of that era:

King Bee - Back By Dope Demand (1990, #4)

Tony Scott:
01. That's How I'm Living  (1989, #20)
02. The Chief (n/a)
03. Get Into It (1990, #4)
04. Gangster Boogie (1990, #22)
05. Love Let Love (1991, #7)

Other hits, not in this compilation:
Move To The Big Band (w/ Ben Liebrand) (1990, #20)
From Da Soul (1991, #21)
Gimme Some (Swing It Baby) (1991, #29)
Under Pressure (w/ Boyz II Men) (1991, #28)
The Greenhouse Effect (w/ Part Two) (1992, #33)

Some good stuff there Henk.  Though rap isn't generally my cup of tea, there's a few catchy ones in there :)

I'm with you. Not all rap is crap. In general, I don't care much for the thuggish "blow ya bleedin' brains out" kinda stuff. So why did I buy that Cypress Hill CD...? :-\\

I dont fully understand how Rap became so popular.

Its so boring,emo and repetitive.
