Subject: I'm a 90s kid, right?
Written By: GameDude2008 on 07/12/07 at 8:41 pm
I was born 11/12/89 and am 17 and going to the 12th grade. I lived in the 80s (without any membory) for 1.5 months. I am a 90s kid, right?

You're pretty much an 90's kid.

Yeah, I'd say so. It was the time when you awoke to the world, and in some ways, I think that defines a person more than anything else. To make it easy, let's just say if you spent at least half of a decade when you were under 13, that makes you a "kid" of that time.
By that logic, '90s kids could be born anyone from 1982 to 1992 (assuming memory starts around age 3).

As '90s as a kid can be :)
Like with all kids born at certain parts of certain decades, you can almost be two different ones - a '90s kid, for the fact you were a kid for all of the '90s, and a '00s kid because you still were young enough to be considered a kid, but sort of at a crossroads, too.
Take someone who was born my year (1982), then I'd be a bit of both, too, except part '80s and part '90s.

Wow, I was born on November 27, 1989, just a couple of weeks after you. Don't worry, I'm a big '90s kid too.

Although these things are individualistic and depends on someone's tastes/circumstances growing up, I do think there's a common faction with people born towards the perimiters of a decade in terms of liking/associating with the starting one.
For instance, the '8-'3 years or so have alot of people who probably have some golden childhood memories of it and may get into the more leftover parts of it later, just in a less "hardcore" way than those who were several years older than them.
This is the impression I've commonly gotten from my peers concerning the '80s. A 1981er (and even up to 1984) might be quite old-school and dig '80s stuff, but just in a less hardcore way than, say a 1970er would.

I don't think there should be any definition of what a 90's kid should be (or 80's/70's kids for that matter), you only can be a kid of what you can remember. Like I'm only born 1986 so obviously most of my childhood memories are gonna be from 90's but I quite like some stuff from the 80's as well (mainly late 80's like tmnt/heman etc)

If you can only somewhat clearly remember the late 90s your really not a 90s kid. Some of the comments you made make me imply that your more of a 2000s kid. Given your age, I'd say you came of age around the early 2000s.
Really unless you were a young teen or adolescent in the 90s your really not a 90s kid because you were unable to fully experience the decade due to young age. I would venture to say that nobody is a product of just one decade.

i was born in 93 and i still consider myself a nineties kid. i mean, it wasn't until i was seven that it was the year 2,000, so yeah, i consider myself a nineties kid, for the most part.

I was born in August of 1989. My memory started in '93 (I remember the day Jurassic Park came out in theaters.) I consider myself a 90s kid, somewhat of a 00s kid too. But my true childhood was primarily in the 90s.

I don't know what my first memories are, but I may have some scattered knowledge of when I was 2 or 3. The earliest time I know I can recall is probably early-mid 1985. Just about 3 and a half. I know because we moved to a different house later that year, and because of songs on the radio, lol.

Well I was born in 1987, and I consider myself a '90s kid without a doubt. I can remember some things from 1990 on pretty well, and can remember anything from like 1993 forward crystal clear. And actually, if you consider 13 to be the end of your 'childhood' I lived my entire childhood in the '90s since I turned 13 in 2000.
If you can remember watching Nickelodeon before 2000, if you owned 2D gaming systems(i.e. SNES, NES, Genesis), or if you worshiped the Power Rangers in mid '90s, then your without a doubt a child of the '90s. I would say that could fit anyone born up until 1992 or maybe even 1993.

I agree. I was also born in 1982, and I can consider myself being an 80s and 90s kid. Though I remember the 80s pretty well, I still consider myself more of a 90s kid probably because I was older during the 1990s. Plus, almost all of my schooling took place during the 1990s... 2nd grade (1990) through high school graduation (2000). That is a lot of growing up.

I'm born in 1981 and I think I'm a real 90's kid. For me, popculture started in 1991. Before 1991, my memories are quite vague.

Yes, especially since I remember events pretty much from 1990 and onward with perfect clarity. Some of it has muddled over the years, but for the most part, I remember the '90s far more clearer than the '80s (at least from 1982-1987). The '90s were a lot of growing up for kids born around our time. We witnessed a lot of events (Oklahoma City Bombing, Bill Clinton and his sexcapades, etc), but again a lot of it is personal memories. I remember the summer of 1994 so well and watching the Woodstock on Pay-Per-View, spending lazy days in front of the couch and starting school in the middle of the summer (being on a track system for the first time) So, pop culture things can stick out, but it's really how we digest this stuff and how we live it out.

Same here. I was born August 1989, but my memory starts in 92. I remember a lot of stuff around Christmas time that year, a lot of the stuff that was on the radio and t.v.
