Subject: America's Funniest People
Written By: quirky_cat_girl on 06/28/07 at 11:32 pm
Do any of you remember this show, that was very similiar to "America's Funniest Videos"...and was hosted by Dave Coulier and Arleen Sorkin? This show always annoyed me...and I think the main reason was because of that stupid Jackalope thing (Jack Ching Botta Bing)...so annoying. ::)

I actually didn't mind this show, though that Jackalope was kind of annoying. When Arleen Sorkin left, they brought in Tawny Kitaen as her replacement, and I liked her better than Sorkin
I remember those live segments with that fat guy with the moustache and long hair (who was also somewhat of a recurring guest star on 'Full House'). I forget his name, but wow was he annoying lol

I always thought it was kind of cheesy, for some reason, that Dave Coulier seemed to totally rip off his "Full House" co-star's other TV show, "America's Funniest Videos". It was sort of like he took Bob Saget's ideas and tried to make them his own.

I remember this show.....I also remember really not liking this show at all. I thought it was pretty corny. If I remember correctly, I think America's Funniest People was only on for several years.

Vin Di Bona, the producer of Funniest Home Videos thought it would be a good idea to do a spin-off that featured tapes of people intentionally trying to be funny. It was a success, but very short-lived. I mean how much can one take of adults and little kids telling jokes in shopping malls. It got old fast lol
It's one of those cases where people (like me) tuned in because it was on Sunday nights (if I remember correctly) when nothing else was on :D

Yes, sadly, I used to watch it too. I guess that kind of silly/corny stuff was cool back then though! ;)

The show was ok at first, but went downhill.

Anyone remember those segments with those two bumbling handymen with dubbed over voices, who would accidentally destroy everything except what it was they were trying to fix. They are re-using those as well as the Jackalope on the show 'That's Funny' with Rondell Sheridan, which is like a cheap clone of Funniest Videos/Funniest People

I use to watch it because I think it ran right before or after AFV. I enjoyed it, but I think I enjoyed AFV better. Does anyone remember a similar show called Rogan's Heroes?

I mostly watched "America's Funniest Home Videos" during the 90's, but I never really got into "Funniest People." I think I may have watched only one episode of that. Wasn't too appealing IMO.

It was on right after AFHV. And I think Rogin's Heroes was on NBC.

Ahhh, Fred Roggin! Long-time sports caster for KNBC-LA, he has been doing "Roggin's Heroes" since at least the early 1980's. It was a regular part of his Sunday Night Broadcast until it was packaged and syndicated in the 1990's.
That is another thing that I do miss about LA, no Fred Roggin.

I remember him. And I also watched Roggin's Heroes a few times during the 90s.

I don't really like these "funny" video shows (most recently nbc's version Outrageous Moments- or some similar title). You can only see someone fall or get hit in the crotch so many times before it just isn't funny anymore. But what I dislike the most is the trend of dubbing a voice over on the video. Do people really think the person filming is actually behind the camera saying "Come on Timmy show grandma your birthday cake." Oh no Little Timmy just hit grandma in the face with the cake. :P
