Subject: R.E.M. 90's song poll
Written By: nally on 01/20/07 at 2:18 pm
I don't think I saw a poll for R.E.M.'s 1990s songs yet, so I figured I'd start one up.
Right now I'm trying to decide between "Shiny Happy People" and "Everybody Hurts".

I voted for "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?"... only R.E.M. could make a hit song out of Dan Rather being accosted on a New York Street by a schizophrenic man! :D

I will wait for you modify the poll before I cast my vote.

Okay, I have modified my poll to include all of the band's hits from the 1990's. Since I had to do several insertions, the vote count had to be reset to zero on all the songs, so you will all need to re-cast your votes.

I think all my faves are from the '80s:
such as
South Central Rain (I'm Sorry)
Pretty Persuasion
Losing My Religion (1989, still popular early '90s)

No, I think that song was from 1991, thus making it a 90's song. I doubt very seriously that it existed two years beforehand.
I just know that it was a big hit in the U.S. in April of 1991.

Definitly 1991, for we had Cable Television for the first time in 1991, and Losing My Religion was been played all the time.

I thought so. ;)
In April 1991, when it was released as a single in the U.S., I was in the 5th grade and wasn't listening to music very much. For me it was all about TV...or Dodger games.

I was driven to tears by it.
It is a sad song somewhat, but not half as sad as Everybody Hurts. Both such emotional songs :)

Everybody Hurts is one of the saddest songs ever. But I prefer Man on the Moon & Losing My Religion

I heard 'Lotus' the other day, and I remembered just how much I dislike that song. It is easily my least favourite from them

I just found another hit by R.E.M. that somehow eluded me when I researched their disography ...
From the 1992 "Automatic For the People" album, the song "Ignoreland" reached #43 in Canada on February 6, 1993

i like lots of them and i thought some later tunes like Lotus were really good. I love Nightswimming too.
I had too choose Sidewinder. It always makes me jump around.

"Up" Is probably my favorite of their albums after the eighties...
They've really gone downhill in the 2000s, though. I mean... They're still good, but they often get boring.
