Subject: Most peaceful 90's year?
Written By: Todd Pettingzoo on 10/22/06 at 9:34 am
What 90's year, had the least national disasters, wars, etc. Besides the Oklahoma City bombing, 1995 looks the most peaceful. I could be wrong, though. Minus the Gulf War, 1991, too.

The 90s had it's fair share of conflict, and I can't really identify any real periods of peace that stand out. 1993 could be one - I believe that was around the time Yassar Arafat (hard to believe now) won the Nobel Peace Prize, and the much publicized handshake and show of solidarity between the PLO and Israel. Of course, we all knew what followed then. '95 had alot of domestic violence (in the U.S.), and conflict in Bosnia and Rwanda especially. 1999 saw its fair share - although the conflict sort of spread outwards from the traditional hotspots.

From personal memories, 1995 seemed like the most mundune, laidback year. I hated it when it happened, now I'm nostaglic for it, lol.

I agree. 1995 seemed to be the year when there was a lull in a lot of the major international conflicts, and nobody knew the name "Monica Lewinsky" yet.
:P

1997 seemed very quiet to me.

Yeah, either '97 or '95 would be the most peaceful '90s year IMO.

I'd say 1998 seems like the most "innocent" year (the early '90s had the Gulf War, the mid '90s had things like Waco and Oklahoma City, and 1999 seems too close to the '00s even if it was still pre-9/11). Maybe that's why South Park and Jerry Springer seemed so controversial, lol. :D

Yeah, I agree about 1997 and 1998 seeming like the most "innocent" or peaceful years. Those are really the years I associate with being in grade school; I remember the Monica Lewinsky scandal seemed like the only thing anybody had to worry about at that point. 1999 had Columbine.

Probably 1996 or 1998. 1996 we were starting to cool off from the grunge era even thiugh the grunge bands were on the charts but on their way out. 1998 I would say was pretty laid-back because of R&B and pop-rap that was around at the time.
1999 was the start of the transisition to the 00's. 1999 is when the economy was the best in years. 1999 had that 80's mentality to it maybe with the happy feel good music, and people were spending money because they had alot of it.

Every decade is filled with wars, disasters, etc. I graduated from high school in 1995..didn't feel too peaceful at all..OKC bombing right before graduation..Israel p.m. assasination..Bosnia raged on. I would say 96 was slightly less eventful..but then, the Olympic bombings. 1990 before Aug. 2 was not full of disaster, but dramatic positive change esp. in eastern Europe. So I would say most "peaceful" year of 1990s was 2000 :)
