I'd probably have to go with Alice In Chains.
I think Layne Staley was probably the best rock vocalist of the last 25 years.

A toss up between Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, or Rage Against the Machine

Best 90's rock bands. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, S.T.P., Red Hot Chili Peppers and Better Than Ezra
A great 90's band you may have never heard before is Vibrolush. They could've gone somewhere, but I think they missed the boat. They had an album on a smaller label. Interscope picked it up in 1997, but it looked like music was turning away from the likes of Nada Surf, Superdrag, etc (MTV played this type of stuff heavily around mid to late 1996). Unlike those bands though, these guys had a consistent sound. A strong effort from a relatively unknown band.
Check Amazon sometime for Vibrolush and get a copy. Shouldn't cost more than a few bucks. Worth the money. But DON'T buy their "Touch and Go" CD. They sound like they were trying to update with the times, but fail miserably.

I don't usually like many new bands and stick to the classic & hard rock stuff but I liked Nirvana very much.

It's gotta be Manic Street Preachers. They were able to overcome a tragic obstacle, and became the most successful rock band of the 90s in the UK. Somehow though they went almost un-noticed in North America.
In 1992, they had a hit called 'Little Baby Nothing' that featured guest vocals from porn star Traci Lords (Yes, that's right). Probably my favourite rock song of the 90s

That would have to be Oasis.
Man, there were so many great bands of the 90s - Pearl Jam, Creed, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Green Day, Foo Fighters, Matchbox Twenty, blink-182, Hootie & The Blowfish, Stone Temple Pilots, RHCP, Live and many others.
Also 80s bands with 90s success like Bon Jovi & Guns N' Roses.

No.
Oasis released 3 albums in the 90s and charted 12 UK Top 40 hits. In their career, they released 7 studio albums and charted 26 total Top 40 hits in the UK.
Manic Street Preachers released 5 albums in the 90s and charted 22 UK Top 40 hits. In their career, they have released 10 studio albums and charted 33 Top 40 hits in the UK to date.
