Subject: RuPaul

For anyone who says the '90s are not at all campy (in a great way) check out RuPaul Charles, the gender neutral transvestite underground dance legend of "Supermodel (You Better Work It)" fame. RuPaul set himself (or herself) apart through a "love everyone" attitude and became sort of a C-grade in most people's opinon (but A-grade in my opinion) celebrity in the early-mid '90s, with aforementioned hit dance songs and a talk show on VH1. Kurt Cobain cited "Supermodel" as one of his favorites of 1993, Nirvana appeared on the RuPaul show, and they were photographed together at the MTV Awards. Here are some links to RuPaul's videos:

I like RuPaul's music.  It's kind of like "runway house".  His collaboration with Elton John on their rendition of "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" is awesome.  I have a 12" promo on red vinyl of the remixes of "Little Drummer Boy" from 1993.  :)

I really liked that one too.

I used like that one song RuPaul did called "Supermodel (You Better Work)".  I remember when that was very popular.  I dunno if it ever made the Top 40 though

The video for the 12" remix was very good...it's one of my favorite videos of the '90s. It was more of a "surprise underground" hit on MTV and such on their late night video hours. It never reached the top 40, but it made #45 on the US Hot 100 and #2 in Hot Dance/Club Play. Overall, I really like RuPaul...
