I remember every year of the '90s. I suppose 1990 I remember probably the least of the 10 years, but after that I have no trouble at all remembering the '90s.

I don't remember 1990 at all, maybe an absolute smidgen of 1991, bits of 1992 and 1993, 1994-1996 quite well, 1997-1999 perfectly.

^ it's strange because lets say when it hit 2000 for you and you were nearly 10 years old, you probably thought, "Well, things don't feel all that different" yet, it was a new year and a new decade so it's hard to still consider it the '90s when you've entered that new decade.. yet, they are all just numbers - right?

There were some years in the '90s that I find terribly forgettable (like 1996, which was the year my parents divorced or 1991, the year my cousin died).

I wish I could remember 1990 and 1991. They sound cool. Oh well. I'm off to my home videos of me from 1990 and 1991. But I'm happy that I can remember two great years very well: 1994 and 1995.
I have 2 very early memories both from mid or late 1992. My first one is me walking into the living room. It's a neat one because that's when I remember I became aware of myself. Weird, but I think true. My other early memory is also from 1992. I was riding in a car with my mother's family down Interstate 40. That must explain my Road interest. But I'm not sure if that memory was real or a dream.

Do you think Wilson Philips was to the '90s, sort of what Christopher Cross was to the '80s? Gender aside, they've got tons of similarities.
-Soft rock/pop stars that rose to prominence quickly, but also faded fast, when the respective decades really kicked in
-Huge selling debut album, less successful later ones
-Had songwriting and looks of the previous decade (Cross was very singer-songwriter-esque and only made a few videos, which he didn't seem too comfortable in; WP had that innocent '80s type prom music, with a carefree feel), but a primitive sound of the one that was just starting (keyboards, and AC-type girl pop, respectively).

Yeah, I agree. In extension, you could also say Carole King was that to the '70s, she was huge in 1971 with Tapestry but failed afterwards to make it, and combined the "Brill Building" sort of '60s pop with the more soulful, singer-songwriter '70s feel. For the '00s, who would you say fits that bill? A/C type music always seems to be a good "spacefiller."

Yeah, I'd say Avril Lavigne/Michelle Branch type pop was like that c. 2002, and Coldplay sort of strikes me in a similar vein.
Another thing I'll say about Cross and WP, is they seemed to be instantly tied to being "relics" of 1980 and 1990, respectively. When they tried (slightly) to update themselves, it didn't work as well ("Give It Up" by WP sounds more '90s dancelike, and "All Right" is sort of '80s synthpop, but it comes off as a somewhat outdated artist trying to stay with the times, as opposed to being natural).

Yeah...I was going to say Coldplay. They were absolutely huge in 2002 and early 2003, just before all the emo, hipster rock, and glam rap/rap-pop that defines the '00s really came in. Alot of people at my school still like them casually, but they didn't fit as well into the general scheme of things around 2005. They're coming back a little bit now with the rise of bands like The Fray and James Blunt.
Avril Lavigne, Vanessa Carlton, and Michelle Branch are all instantly dateable to 2002 by people right now, which is why they won't come back.

Even by 2004, Avril sounded dated with her second album. Although I sort of thought she was a brat personally, I liked her debut album and thought it even had a few good non-single tracks, but it was probably just a burnout in the eyes of most people. She's probably already over the hill, as are the other two.
I think when anything is overplayed to death, it makes people eager to get rid of it quickly. Perhaps that happened with Coldplay's "Clocks" -- too bad that had to be their overdone song, I like "Talk" much better (both the song and the video are sort of retro 80s too).

LOL, Disney music...that was my soundtrack for the mid-'90s, honey! In retrospect, all of that stuff was very trendsetting for the '90s A/C balladeer stuff like Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, and Whitney Houston. You could also see it as a revival of '70s neo-Broadway charting hits by the likes of Barbra Streisand.

The Eagles would be my early '90s soundtrack and Peter, Paul & Mary and the Eagles would be my mid '90s soundtrack. And I still like Peter, Paul & Mary in the mid '00s. But the main reason I still like them is because I liked them in the '90s.

If you were born in 1982, it seems you should have similiar memories as I (or most who were born in 1982).
Well, according to the both of us, I do. I didn't start getting "Perfect Memory" (or that, "Feels like it was just yesterday" memory) until around the time I turned 12, which was in November 1994. I still have pretty good memories of the early 90's, but they aren't "Perfect"

I guess it's different for everybody. For whatever reason, there's not one single year in the '90s that I have fuzzy memories of.

Yeah, I'm sort of the same. I think my memory is clearer after 1991, because that's the year we moved and I began school with a lot of people I would know for the next 10 years or more. But I lost touch with everybody I knew from Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2, and thus my memory of those years is a little bit less clear... However, I wouldn't call my memory of 1990 and '91 bad either - I have loads of memories I could dredge up from every year of the '90s, including the very early ones.

All of it, actually 1990 is the first year I have rather detailed memories, such as traveling to Mexico City all by myself, getting our first VCR and cable tv. I also remember MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" and Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby" played all over the radio.

Born in 1981. I remember vaguely some things from 1990, and almost everything from the rest of the decade (started listening to chart music in 1991, for example).
And through the years, I've made up for the lack of memories from 1990 and the years before, playing a lot of music from the 1988-1990 era nowadays. Wishing I was born a couple of years earlier.

Yeah, I think that's true. I've seen some people born in 1992 that seemed to have a decent recollection of the decade, but once you get beyond that it becomes problematic. It's been my own experience that you don't really begin developing a true understanding of the world around you until you start school, which for someone born in the "4" year of a decade would not be until the very end of that decade or the very beginning of the next depending on what part of the year they were born in.
As for the topic itself, I'll stick with what I posted six years ago. My earliest traceable memory dates back to Christmas Day 1989, and everything after about '92 is when I begin to lose famous "hazy" feeling of early childhood memories.

1990: Rather fuzzy memories from the first half, more clearer ones from the second half
1991: Not as clear as it was yesterday, but overall a good memory (esp. when looking at photos)
1992: Good memory (can't recall every day, but that's also not the case with for example 2003)
1993: Good memory (")
1994: Good memory, very good from the late part on (")
1995-1998: perfect memory (")
1999: since I started my teenage years then: like yesterday

I witnessed the entire decade, but of course some memories blur with time (even those in 1999). Still, it was interesting how early in the '90s Apple IIs and Macintoshes were still considered modern and not vintage, before Pentium processors really made them look old. I remember when Super Nintendo first came on the scene knowing how superior the graphics were when played at a friend's house compared to my regular NES. Also, there weren't as many "luxury items" around where I grew up; sadly we seem to take luxury more for granted these days considering how large the average house is, the amount of luxury cars on the road (even used ones are abundance), and how people seemed to inspire more and not seem spoiled. We called our president George Bush, not George H.W. Bush or Bush 41. I thought in 1991 when gas crept up to about $1.35 it seemed high at the time and thought that we could be moving back toward the inner city. It was nice watching the '90s things develop while seeing the '80s holdovers gradually fade away of the course of the early-mid '90s.

1990 - I don't remember this year at all.
1991 - I have very vague memories of this year.
1992 - The majority of what I recall from this year has to do with medical problems I faced at the time and preschool class.
1993-1994 - I remember these years fairly well.
1995 - This year stands out in my mind because a lot of negativity happened that year. o__o
1996 - 1999 - I look fondly back on these years. I remember them almost in their entirety.

Late. My memories have faded over the last few years though, which I guess is what happens over time; even the late 90s still felt recent not that long ago, but it's starting to seem distant now. The early 90s (what I remember) seems like a different lifetime.

That's right; they were originally part of that show. But the Simpsons became a standalone show in late 1989. It was sometime after that when I first heard about it/started watching it.
