Madonna had a very revolutionary sound and style around 89/90, it was very fresh, new, and glossy. You watch some of her 89/90 music videos (vogue, express yourself, cherish) and they have a distinctly mid 90's look and feel to them. And those videos have aged well, they don't look dated even 15 years later.

Yeah, videos like "Cherish" and "Vogue" have more of an early-mid '90s feel to them than a late '80s feel: all the black and white, the casual look, etc. Madonna was ahead of her time and influenced all performers like Mariah Carey and Janet Jackson who were huge later in the '90s with that stuff.
