Subject: Most "Pop-Culture" filled year of the '90s
Written By: WalkerP20 on 06/17/06 at 8:16 pm
Which year of the '90s was just filled with so much various pop-culture, more so than any other year?
I'm kind of torn between 1995 and 1997.
1995 had everything from the OJ Simpson Trial, to the debut of the Sony Playstation (next gen consoles), to the popularity of Tatoos and Piercings, to the beginnings of the popularity of the Internet (and Windows 95), to the Oklahoma City Bombing
1997 was a weird and crazy year of the '90s. Alot of stuff happened in 1997 more so than any other year (I really don't want to go through the list, lol)
For instance, I happen to believe that 2005 is easily the most pop-culture filled year of the '00s.
Anyway, 1997 just seemed so out of place, but that's mainly because 1996 and 1998 were very different years than 1997. 1997 was like the 2005 of the '90s, imo.
What would you guys say is the most pop-culture filled year in the decade?

I was going to say 1996, but now, not so sure.

If I had to rank them in order from "Most" to "Least", this is how I would rank them...
1: 1997
2: 1995
3: 1994
4: 1991
5: 1992
6: 1999
7: 1998
8: 1996
9: 1990
10: 1993
The funny thing is, I believe that 1993 was just such a Mellow and Relaxed year with not that much defining pop-culture, but I also happen to think it's one of the best years of the '90s and is the CORE year of the '90s

Actually, after thinking about it for a minute, I would swap 1993 with 1996 on my list. I just remembered some stuff from '93 such as Power Rangers, Beavis & Butthead, Jurassic Park, and the Bombing of the World Trade Centers.
When I think about it, there wasn't much of anything in 1996 except for.....the Macarena ;D

It's hard to say what year was most pop culture filled. Generally speeking, it would be between 1993-1996 IMO.

I don't think you could pick on year. You could pick the year which was saw most 'change' (which doesn't equal 'progress'), or the year with a very distinct pop cultural scene (e.g. 1995 or 1999), but certainly the concept 'most pop culture' is impossible to pick. The years 1991, 1995 and 1999 (oddly enough, four years apart) seemed to show the most zeitgeistic spirit.

Get outta here, 1993 is NO WAY the 'core' of the 90s ;D. Maybe the early 90s...While it was not psuedo-eighties by any means, the 80s influence was still strong. I'm saying 95 or 96 is the core year of the 90s. Other that that, I agree with 1990/93 and 1996 being sort of culturally decrept.

I just wanted to remind you that there's not a dash in "pop culture". ;)

I think every year had it's happenings. 1998 seemed to be flooded with pop culture reigning most. The Lewinsky/Clinton Impeachment trial, the effect of Titanic, etc.
