Last I saw of him on, he appeared in a Geico Ad where the Gekko was going for an audition, as the dig was leaving it.  LOL

Nowadays, it tastes like he is in the meat in the Tacos  ;D

I believe the dog had to be thrown away because it was considered offensive towards Mexicans...since the dog had a Mexican accent.

The Taco Bell dog is the '90s equivalent to Max Headroom.  ;D

Funny, not long ago I did a search on this and kept intending to make a thread, since there wasn't one existing (no need to now). :)

Yeah, I liked him (I even bought a T-shirt which I still regularly wear. The front says Here lizard, lizard, lizard and the back says Uh-oh, I think I need a bigger box). :D

Anyway, at first, he just said "Yo quiero Taco Bell" but they were soon expanded to mini plots. Good stuff. I still have several of these on tape.

P.S. This was around 1998 when he was at his peak, and I'd guess the dog was around three years old then. Today, he'd be roughly nine or ten (a huge difference in dog years!). So even though he's probably still around, he's got to look way different now (it would be interesting to see).

There was also a similar contraversy about Speedy Gonzales.

I still have the taco bell "revolution" talking stuffed doll. Unfortunatly the battery went out some time ago. I think it said- "Viva Gordita's!"

Anyone at least 12 years old can remember the Taco Bell Dog.  Wasn't he around until like 1999/2000?

It's funny that today, in order to remember the '90s you'd have to be like 9 years old.

Gidget was the original Taco Bell Dog, although now she is rather old in dog years. Dink was actually Taco Bell Chihuahua #2 I think. They always use female dogs in movies and commercials because they do not feel compelled to wee all over everything as males do.

They didn't do away with the ads because they were offensive to Mexicans. Most Mexicans seem to get a kick out of them. The ads were stopped because they stopped pulling as much attention - people just plain got bored with them.

I found this at Snopes.com, the premier urban legend debunkers on the web.

I never knew that, but it makes sense. ;D

I was very surprised when I learned the dog was female, but I realized it's not like it was an actual person. That's kinda sad in its own way, that "he" is getting up in age. If she was 3 in 1998, she'd be 11 this year (roughly 77 in dog years). :(

P.S. I never did, or would have, gotten sick of the ads.

They're still using Gidget in movies and such. She played "Bruiser's Mom" in Legally Blonde II, although that has been a while too.
