Subject: Sprite commercial
Written By: audkal on 12/22/05 at 9:17 pm
My brother taped this Sprite commercial off the radio sometime in the mid 90s, here are the lyrics:
No-one understands me, and I ain't got no job;
Sprite helped me grow my goatee, now I'm a total slob;
Yes I'm a total slacker, I owe it all to Sprite.
I got nothing else to do, I drink it day and night.
If you want to know the truth this song is just a ploy.
Sprite won't make you miserable or fill your life with joy
'Cause Sprite is just a soda, remember what comes first.
So drink whatever tastes good and just obey your thirst.
This commercial is so stupid ...
Does anyone remember this? Also, does anyone know where I could download this?

the first part of this song goes:
I'm really miserable, I'm so full of angst;
pierced my nose, got three tattoos, to sprite i'm givin' thanks...
No-one understands me, and I ain't got no job;
Sprite helped me grow my goatee, now I'm a total slob;

My brother must be missing that first part on his cassette, hehe.

There was more than one. The one your brother taped is the grunge version. There was a ballad that went, in part:
"Sprite will clear your stinky breath
your armpits will smell yummy
change that big fat rolling gut into a cute little tummy.
This song is so ridiculous
don't believe a word you hear.
Jingles are stupid anyway,
you don't get thirsty with your ears.
Taste is nothing. Thirst is everything. Obey your thirst. Sprite!"
There were others, too, like faux-opera and faux love song among others, but the ballad and the grunge version were the only ones I remember any words to. If anyone has knowledge of where one can hear these again, I'd greatly appreciate the info. Thanks!

Not what either of y'all were asking for, but Sprite appears to have covered most music genres.
I'm Heavy D and I'm very particular,
Others may try, but Sprite is pickier,
Limon has a twist of unexpectedness,
The one you can't resist, number one on my list.
There's a lot of wannabees runnin' around town,
Some say they up when they ain't even down,
Remember, I'm Heavy D and the boyz are my crew,
And we like the Sprite in you.

- Heavy D and the Boyz, Sprite TV commercial from 1990.
That 1990 tv spot predated the slacker/Xer/grunge ascendancy, but in 1993, the Coca-Cola Company (who also owned Sprite) would come out with OK Cola, which flopped, but which was targeted dead-on at the Xers. The slacker-targeted mid-90s Sprite commercials transcribed previously in this thread sound a lot like the continuation of Coke targeting the Xer demographic. I'm with the other posters here -- let's go find 'em, and fill in the blanks in the historical record.
