Written By: TarzSp on 11/08/05 at 3:18 pm
(The rules are that you can now vote for only "2" songs at the most)
Also, i've added the exact Date that each song hit #1 for the very first time on the Top 40 Charts
This is a Poll, and on every one is going to be a list of all the songs that Reached #1 on the Top 40 Charts in America that year
Remember, this is the American charts, just so you guys aren't confused
Anyway, pick your favorite #1 Hit song from 1996 8)
(If you want to hear my explination about which chart i'm using, then click here... http://www.inthe00s.com/index.php/topic,14334.msg690159.html#msg690159)

I think he had 1 more song later in 1996, but then he dissapeared :(
I really liked "Nobody Knows", it was one of those 90 songs that you just can't forget, it was also overplayed alot on MTV and Radio

It was a tossup between Alanis' "You Learn" and No Doubt's "Don't Speak". Alanis wins by a nose. 8)

Before I get to my picks here, I just want to point out a couple of boo boos in two of the titles.
The first Celine Dion song should say "Because You Loved Me" (past tense).
The Tracy Chapman song is called "Give Me One Reason" (Good isn't there).
One of those two songs is in my list of favorites.
I listened to lots of music in 1996, and I listened to Casey Kasem's American Top 20 countdown every weekend, so I'm bound to pick quite a few. Haven't made my final decisions yet.

Cut it out! I said "Boo_Boo" there's a difference between the two.
And please stop blowing up the text size. That's not very kind.

The "Because You Love Me" was a Typo on my part, I was typing really fast at the time and never realized I forgot to add the "D"
However, in the case with the Tracy Chapman song, I added the word "Good" to it because that's how the song goes. She says "Give Me One Good Reason"...or atleast that's what it sounds like she keeps saying :-\\

I liked Give Me One Reason by Tracy Chapman because it reminds me of buying a JVC video camera at Brendle's. I've always called that song the 1996 song and the camera song.

I can't decide on just two, so here are my picks:
"Give Me One Reason"
"Macarena" (yes, it's one of my guilty pleasures)
"I Love You Always Forever"
"Don't Speak"

(What If God was) One of Us is my favourite hit but I doubt that it was from early '97(in our radio stations). Is Joan Osbourne a country singer? I had seen her country album in 90s

Thanks I remember now the singer in the country album is not her. I also remember that JO was nominated in American Academy Award, right? Thanks for your respond. And please correct me if necessary.

I chose "You Learn" and "Head Over Feet." Those songs really spoke to me back then, as did "Ironic," the Tracy Chapman song, and the Joan Osborne song. I always had a gripe with the Joan Osborne song, though, because she sang "what if God WAS one of us?" rather than "WERE one of us." It just made me cringe.

Unbreak My Heart (Disco version) and Ironic. Both those songs were also released in the UK.
