I watched this in the mid-90s and had no idea it was not current and was 80s.

I used to watch that cartoon in the early-mid 90s used to be one of my favorites. Yea I just looked it was made '83-'86, it carried over from the '80s. There was a late 90s movie as well with Matthew Broderick.
