Subject: The DiC Entertainment Logo
Written By: AngeFaitore on 11/12/04 at 5:45 pm
Okay, who was scared of the DiC kid's bedroom window end logo? :D
Who had nightmares about the logo?
Who whined to their parents to put blinds on the windows because they were afraid of the logo coming at them while they were sleeping?

The kid was sleeping in bed beneath the window and his dog was sleeping at the foot of the bed. It was a still photo that panned out to the window via early CGI.
I have frame-by-framed through that logo so many times that my tapes that feature it have worn out just slightly at that point.
It's still a creepy logo, neh?

I vagueley remember that logo. The one that affected me most was the one with Spider Man clinging above it with his starey eyes. Forgotten which one it is.

Oh! The Marvel Productions 'MP' logo from 1984-1989 used in Muppet Babies!
I used to find that one creepy, but now I think it's cool.

Vaguely recall the DiC Productions logo following episodes of Inspector Gadget, but can't remember anything about a bedroom window...

You have obviously never watched any of the DiC shows produced past 1987.
The Inspector Gadget DiC was green on a vortex background.
*sigh* I'll show you what the one I'm talking about looks like.

Nah, I rarely (if at all) watched cartoons from the late 80's to the early 90's. I was away from home and busy...
The DiC logo I remember is from '83/'84 and followed Inspector Gadget cartoons, like I said. Also, when the DiC logo would flash on the screen a little girl's voice would sound, saying...well, you know..."deek..."

I don't think the logo itself was as scary as the volume of the sound effect playing while the logo was being shown. Most of the time it was louder than their programs. I do remember both these DiC logos.
Note: The rumor about the little girl saying "deek' had something to do with her gender confusion and had nothing to do with the production company. ;D

I wonder if there was an urban legend spread by children, because I just remember a few kids and I being freaked by it when I was in elementary school.

I found the Dic logo more disgusting than anything else.
I mean, that name... "Dic".... being said in a little girl's voice.....
ewwwwwww! Totally creepy.
I always wondered whether there were some sickos somewhere getting off on it.

I thought it was a little boy, not a little girl. Why is it that everybody thinks it's a girl saying it?

Because it sounds like a little girl saying "deek", not a little boy saying "deek".
And to Howard, it's creepy in the way that the clown doll sitting on the shelf in your bedroom, at night, in the thunder and lightning is creepy when it's eyes seem to follow you around the room kinda creepy...I guess...

Well, little boys and little girls can sound alike since they don't have too much a difference in voice pitch.
Yes, it's creepy in the "I don't really want to look at a dark sky because it will trigger a thought of the logo and suddenly I have the logo music stuck in my head!" way.

I get nervous watching D-i-c-k Clark on TV. I worry that all of his delayed aging will suddenly occur all at once, and his head will implode on live TV.

Yeah, there is a rare variant where a choir sings "deeeeek" but that's really rare and those who have seen that one were very startled by it. People at the closing logo group (on yahoo) say if they would see the DiC logo out their window, they would scream!

The United Artist opening credits logo did the same thing for me. There would be this UA icon in the dark that slowly turned while a slow piano tune began, Suddenly the music would get louder and louder until it would creshendo.

I totally remember the DiC logo, in fact I must've seen it a couple million times over the years. I'd say that anybody who watched cartoons in the late '80s-mid '90s would probably rememeber this.
