IMO, Vanilla Ice was far worse.  I still remember the scene from "MTV 25 Lame"  (1999) when Vanilla Ice smashed a copy of the "Ice Ice Baby" video with a baseball bat. 

Though I'll admit that "U Can't Touch This" (MC Hammer) was, and still is, a fun song.  8)

In the beginning, I can't lie I liked Ice, Ice Baby; however, once his stories didn't add up, I turned him off. M.C. Hammer was good, especially "Let's Get It Started".

I was not a fan of either rapper, but liked the videos You can't touch this and Ice ice Baby.  Both guys could dance dam good, but Ice was a bit hokey with  that word to ya motha, or when he's sitting in his 5.0 and has a pistol, it's so stupid, I just have no other explanation, but the song told a kind of funny story anyways.

IIB Has a good tune only while Hammer's Songs are catchy, singable and still cool!

Hammer was COOL and had some good tunes and even though Vanilla Ice had some good tunes no matter how hard he tried he was waaayyyy to white to be believable as the bad arse he wanted to be.

No, "Sampling" is when you have the original artists permission to use thier stuff....this was blatant "Stealing"....simple as that. Queen sued the pants off of Vailla Ice and MC lost millions as well...and it was derservedly so that it happened >:(

Deservedly so as well. Was this the first time people took from other people? I don't remember that kind of thing happening before 1990/1991 (House music seemed to sample from other media).

This just proves that 1990 and 1991 was one of the campiest times for pop music. Like it had the cheesiness of the '80s that tried to toughen up and give itself a makeover for the '90s - which couldn't yet  decide if it wanted to let it in the club or have the bouncers toss it out on the street. ;)

I think MC Hammer has some catchy songs, though. Vanilla Ice isn't as bad as everyone says, but even back then he was sort of a joke.

In Canada, MC Hammer had more hits than Vanilla Ice, but I still liked Vanilla Ice the best.  Hammer's hits were good, but they got overplayed fast

Hammer's music is good for what is was - fun, hip-hop inspired dance/pop that didn't take itself too seriously. He didn't really get respected outside of that after "Pray" and "2 Legit to Quit". He tried doing a gangsta-styled album c. 1994 and it didn't do very well.
