Subject: songs of 1995

Written By: Guest on 05/18/04 at 5:25 pm

I liked the music of this year and '94 out of all the '90s.  In my opinion '94 was the best year for alternative/rock while '95 was the best year for rap/r&b.  Here's some songs that came out in 1995 to prove my point:

Coolio-  Gangsta's Paradise
TLC-  Waterfalls
Montell Jordan-  This Is How We Do It
Luniz-  I Got 5 On It
Soul For Real-  Candy Rain
Skee-Lo-  I Wish
Notorious B.I.G.-  One More Chance
Mary J. Blidge feat. Method Man-  Your All I Need (To Get By)
Monica-  Just One Of 'Dem Dayz (Don't Take It Personal)
Total-  No One Else
Brandy-  Sittin' Up In My Room
R. Kelly-  You Remind Me Of Something
2Pac-  Dear Mama
Blessed Union Of Souls-  I Believe
Dr. Dre-  Keep Their Headz Ringin'
Junior Mafia-  Playaz' Anthem
Dr. Dre feat. Ice Cube-  Natural Born Killaz
Craig Mack-  Flava In Ur Ear
LL Cool J feat. Total-  Loungin'

All together 1995 was a pretty sweet year if you ask me.  I have some fond memories of that year but unfortunately I was only twelve so I missed out on most of the music that I just mentioned. :(

It was a semi-sweet year for me. The company I worked for got bought out by a loser and they of course moved the whole company to another city. It was sort of like a slow firing for several hundred people. What a waste. >:(

Buuutttt...if you like 1995, then don't overlook some of the "mainstream" songs for that year:

Good - Better Than Ezra
Roll to Me - Del Amitri
You Gotta Be - Des`ree
Missing - Everything But the Girl
I Know - Dionne Farris
As I Lay Me Down - Sophie B. Hawkins
Blessed - Elton John
Shy Guy - Diana King
Hey Now (Girls Just Want to Have Fun) - Cindi Lauper
No More "I Love You's" - Annie Lennox
Kiss from a Rose - Seal (Batman Forever movie)
Back for Good - Take That
You Put a Move on My Heart - Tamia
More Human Than Human - White Zombie

note: these were 1995 songs where I live!

;) ;D

I'm really sorry to disagree with you but IMO, this was a year for VERY slim pickings. I would say that I liked Weird Al's "Amish Paradise" the best...not only for the song but for the reaction he got from coolio...priceless ;D

Memorable Songs: of 95:

Runaway-Corona

Iris-Live

Corona had a song called Runaway? All this time I thought they were a one hit wonder with "Rhythm Of The Night." And Live had a song called "Iris"? That must be one of the tracks on their Throwing Copper album that wasn't a hit. I know the Goo-Goo Dolls had a song with that name, but that one was from 1998. The only Live songs I know from '95 are "I Alone", "Lightning Crashes", and "Selling The Drama" (which doesn't appear anywhere in the lyrics).

I recall Real McCoy having a hit called "Runaway" around that time.

1995 had some good club music as well:

Planet Soul - "Set You Free"
The Bucketheads - "The Bomb (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)"
Tatjana - "Santa Maria"
Clubzone - "Hands Up '95"
Size 9 - "I'm Ready"
Candy Girls - "Fee Fi Fo Fum"
La Bouche - "Be My Lover" and "Sweet Dreams"

Okay, another good 1995, "mainstream" song...

"I Could Fall in Love" - Selena

This song sort of grew on me after hearing it a few times while driving up and down the Interstate during my move to another city.
I also think it came out right after her death.    :(

Hey Dj,
The Bucketheads - "The Bomb (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)"
I heard it for years and never knew who it was by and only recently found out. Good one. :)

Oh, and "Here Comes The Hotstepper" by Ini Kamoze was from late 1994.

To Chrisrj: "Colors Of The Wind" was sung by Vanessa Williams.

I know, but I was just talking about the song itself.  Disney tends to let other singers cover their songs a lot(which is cool, cuz it's always fun to hear stuff like Zip-a-dee-do-dah done disco style, or Kiss the Girl covered as a country song).

Yes, I'm a fan of Disney... not like I buy their baby toys or anything.  They're better than people give them credit for.

Anyway, please carry on with the topic. :)

Um, no. I remember the year 1994 VERY vividly. It was a great year for me, too.
Lightning Crashes by Live, Basket Case by Green Day and What Would You Say by Dave Matthews Band all came out in the Fall of 1994, although none of them hit #1 until early 1995.
I was in third grade and I remember EVERYTHING from that year.

But still. Those songs became hits in 1995. That's when the radio began playing them. I remember; I was a freshman in high school during the 1994-95 fiscal year. Most people tend to associate a song with the year that it became a hit. "What Would You Say" hit the charts in early 1995.

I graduated from high school in 1995..not a great but not a bad year for music, mainstream and not-main stream. Think it was the "calm before the storm" which would be the horrid late 90s of britney-teen pop. I listened to a lot of different music then, but the one song that I associate with that year was Blues Traveler "Runaround"..was played constantly right around my graduation. Just hearing the song now transports me to mid 1995: 18 years old, a slick new high school diploma, college acceptance letter, a 79 Dodge, and a whole life ahead of me! Where did it all go?!?!?!??!?!?

When you were a senior in hish school, I was a freshman! I did have a couple friends at the time who were then seniors...I knew I'd lose track of them after they graduated. :-[ For the record, one of them would now be 30; the other one will be 30 at the end of April. :)

I vaguely remember it.

I do happen to know that even though "Macarena" was a big hit in 1996 (monopolizing the #1 spot in the US for three months), I still heard it on the radio in July/August of 1995.
