I enjoyed Prince of Thieves, but I LOVED Men in Tights.
I think Cary Elwes explained it best when he says "Because, Unlike other Robin Hoods. I speak with an english accent!"
that was my biggest complaint was that costner wouldnt stick with the character. sometimes he used an accent, and other times he wouldnt. very annoying actually.
and Morgan Freeman was Much more inspiring and charasmatic.
on a side note.
The same time that Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves was released in theatres. a MUCH better Robin Hood was released on TV.
Staring Patrick Bergin as Robin Hood
and Uma Thurman as Maid Marion
This one was Much gritter, and more realistic than RH:PoT, a MUST see for all Robin Hood fans.

Mel Brooks' History of the World, Part I was on the other night. Every joke made me GROAN. I admire Mel Brooks because he dares to get away with it...and he does!

I do agree. I really did love Prince of Thieves but hated Costner in it. Everyone else was EXCELLENT!!! Alan Rickman (the Sheriff) really stole the movie. Morgan Freeman was WONDERFUL! And many of the other actors were just great. Like I said, everyone was great except Costner. I thought he really sucked. Who said that Costner could act?

Men in Tights. Guess I'm more into the humor like that. Doesn't help that I don't care for Kevin Costner, though. ::)

Both, I like Prince of Thieves abit more.
Why a spoon, cousin? Why not an axe?
Because it's DULL, you twit, it'll hurt more.
That's it then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas.

Robin Hood Men in Tights Rocks my socks. Dave Chapelle who plays Achoo (tee hee, "bless you"--nice one!) totally kicked it for me. Yeah, Carey Elwes is awesome and so is Dave Chapelle (no kidden eh!) but Blinken was definitely high up on my list? I mean how many guys can you watch on the toilet looking at braille porn? Not too many I'd think.
"Oh Robin, you've lost your arms in the war; but you grew a nice set of boobs!"
Or
"Blinken, fix your boobs! You look like a bloody Picasso!
Incredible. Effing incredible.

I'm not going to compare apples and oranges here.
I liked both movies a lot for what they were.
I throughly enjoyed "Men in Tights" for the parody comical film that it was. I thought Cary Elwes did a fine job of playing Robin Hood and the storyline was not altered to enhance the comedy, which I respected a ton. I was also a big fan of John Lewis who played the King, I thought he had a lot of good one liners.
I absolutely loved "Prince of Theives" and am dumbfounded to find that so many members of this board were not fans of his performance nor him as an actor as a whole. I thought his portrayal of his character, regardless of whether his accent was key on or not was unbelievably excellent. The story of the movie, the way it moved, character development. The plot, the climax, the damn everything about that movie from a script writer's perspective (that's me) was fenominal.

For me, it would be Prince Of Thieves.
I am a huge Mel Brooks fan. But I think he has lost his magic over the years. Spaceballs, Men In Tights, and Robin Hood were probably the worst movies he ever made.
The thing I loved about Brooks was his "dark comedies". The Producers, The Twelve Chairs, Silent Movie, High Anxiety, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, and Life Stinks were some of the best movies I have ever seen.
Towards the later part of his career, everything he did seemed like a repeat of "History Of The World". His dark comedy and social commentary went out the window, and it seemed his motto was "the sillier, the better". Plus he was trying to compete with the "Zucker, Abrams & Zucker" team, which simply did screwball much better then he did. Mel had simply fallen out of touch of what the youth wanted. And kinda like Weird Al, you have to reinvent yourself if you want to be good at parody.
I am sad that he is retired, because I would have love to seen more of his dark comedies. But thankfully, a new generation has picked up his works, and is recreating them for today. The Producers and Get Smart are already either in the works, or completed. And I myself can't wait to see how they turn out.
