I know! I really can't believe that although it's true. IMO the movie was okay but nothing I would think would ever be the number one movie so many years later :-\

Amazing. I thought Nemo made more than Titanic by now.

Ironically Titanic is still staying afloat.

I don't know about finding value in something based on its sales or revenue. It doesn't work that way with me for movies or music.
I still prefer "A Night to Remember" (1958) over "Titanic" (1997).
;)

Quite honestly, I don't care how long it stays at #1. I've only seen it one time, and I didn't really care for it.

I liked the alternate ending...where Jack was able to climb up onto that piece of wood with Kate Winslet....thus both were rescued and lived happily ever after ;)

"Titanic" was a fantastic movie and, in my opinion, it still is. I think Kate Winslet and Leonardo Di Caprio did a great job in it playing the parts of Jack and Rose.

I have only watched Titanic up to the point when the singing started.

What singing?
Perhaps it should be re-phrased, something vocal towards the end of the film.

The film was ruined for me right from the start, I knew what happened in the end.

you'd think that but the ship was saved in the end by a pod of 200 blue whales and everyone who jumped into the water lived by clinging on to escaped circus penguins...

Now that would be a much better ending, and all icebergs were banned.

Never cared for the film..and its not because of the whole 'chick flick' image or anything along those lines. I just didn't care for the film.

The film may be too long, but it was fantastic.

Titanic was fantastic, so it wasn't that good if you saw it today.

I prefer lists that adjust for inflation, because they give a more accurate impression of a film's popularity -- not just how much hard cash it raked in. Lists that don't adjust for inflation are biased toward the present because the price of tickets is higher today than it was ten, twenty, or thirty years ago. Just take a look at that list -- the top 20 alone is made up of 11 movies from only the last six years, while 6 are from the 1990s.
When you adjust for inflation, the list changes pretty dramatically: Gone With the Wind (1939) remains the biggest movie of all time, followed by Star Wars (1977), The Sound of Music (1965), E.T. (1982), and The Ten Commandments (1956). Titanic (1997) is still one of the most popular movies of all time, of course, and it's by far the biggest movie of the '90s, coming in at 6th place overall. Here's the list that I'm looking at:

As for Titanic itself, I like the movie well enough (even though I'm not that fond of Jack or Rose as characters) and might get it on DVD someday. :)

That movie was HUGE back in very late 96 and 97...one cannot over-estimate how big it was. With the exception of maybe the LOTR and Harry Potter movies, no movie since has generated as much hype.

lol, what are you talking about? "Titanic" wasn't released until December 19th, 1997. And it was in Theaters all the way until September 1998. So I think you meant Late 1997 and Early 1998 ;)
