Subject: I love 1996

I must say, the best year in the 90s, for me anyways, was 1996. Music-wise, '96 was a revolution. After Tupac died, I saw gangsta rap turn into glitter rap and starting to get real popular. Grunge music was fizzling out and Alternative rock was still a baby. I saw the last half of the decade transform into the disco, new wave, punk, etc... Techno(my favourite music), was branching off into more different styles and BPM. Some of us still remember growing up with our baby boomer parents' idol music artists. But the days of Michael Bolton, Gloria Estafan, Elton John, and other light rockers were no longer in our childhood memeories. Music did change in that year, but mainly in a conceptual level. Now in 2004, Hip Hop is an international enterprise. Alternative rock has branched off into its own catagories. We are now in the 80s mentality. I give credit to 1996 for a great deal of the vast changes.
Now about my personal experiences. In 1996, I turned 18, and graduated from highschool. I was scared as heck after I got that diploma and wondering...what am I going to do next? Winter/Spring 1996 was a slow starter because heavy snow storms ruined my plans for anything I tried to do, confining me to the internet everyday...driving me mad. I even got drunk for the first time in my life. In the news, the Uni-Bomber was finally caught...(I didn't even know who the Un-Bomber was until he was captured). Not much else happend util the summer. A lot of experiences happened to me in the summer of '96. I went overseas for the first time since I was 7. I got to go to Holland to hang out with my foreign exchange student friend. I also went to Germany and France. I got to see a new revolution computer manipulated movies, such as Twister and Independence Day. Several bad things happened too that could of ended my life. A charter bus I was riding on blew a tire, almost sent us careening of the road. An attempted car jacking in down town Newark, NJ would of ended both my friend and I, hadn't he peeled away quickly. The girl, I swore I would marry someday, broke up with me because she suspected I cheated on her(which I DIDN'T). I also almost had a friend of mine die right before my eyes, as he rode his mountain bike off a 12 foot cliff. I watched Flight 800 in the news all evening and night on July 17th. I felt so bad for the passengers on that ill-fated flight. I also saw a commercial airliner hijacking on July 26th. Iberia Airlines was hijacked by a group of Cuban activists, wanting the flight bound for Miami, instead of Havana. I loved hip hop music, so I was sadend to hear about Tupac Shakur's death in September. Tupac was, like to many people, my influence. On a happier note, I got an acceptance letter to attend the University of North Carolina. Sadly, I turned it down because of lack of funds...oh well! ;D October 1996 was a good time because I found a new girlfriend, who was really cool. I decided to go to a junior college. The job I had sucked ass, but it was going to help me out in college so I dealt with it. November and December of 1996, as the year came to a close, I wrote a journal about the year, as to previous, because I'm weird like that.
There's more experiences that happened to me in 1996, but I don't want this to get any longer than it is now. I just want to say that it was a damn good year, a year that changed my way I viewed the world, listened to music, and lived my life. So in conclusion, I want to put in my two cents to a great year...1996 4 lyfe! 8)

This was a great year. Endless good movies, lots of good music, and my first year of high school. :)
