Subject: Worst/Most Depressing Commercial I ever saw

Written By: AndrewTalkingWalnut on 01/26/04 at 04:28 p.m.

Was the commercial on Ch 9, UPN, in New York City
for "Klein,Wagner and Morris" Social Security Disability Benefits,
It was in Black, and white and showed people's faces, Not only that,
The "Music" to the commercial was depressing,

I realize, as do many others, it's not a cheerful topic, but why do they have to make the commercial so GLOOMY and Depressing,??  They should be ashamed of themselves making such a Terrible/Gloomy commercial.

I type this under the 90's section, because I believe this Terrible commercial was produced in the 90's

Thankfully, "Klein,Wagner and Morris" changed the commercial.
And made a less depressing one.

How many Americans Receive SSI(Disability Benefits?
Just curious.

I don't think it's bad to have a depressing comercial; if every comercial is cheerful then it will change people's sense of reality and they will think everyone is happy all the time, and everyone isn't happy all the time, and everyone shouldn't be happy all the time.

What they are trying to do is "scare" people into thinking the system is screwing them.  Remember, these guys do not make any money unless they get customers to come in the door.  ::)

I don't know how MANY Americans get SSI, but I've known a few who have tried to get it.  You ALWAYS get turned down the first time you apply.  From there it's a grueling, year long appeals process, and then you might get turned down again. If you actually DO get the benefit, it's not nearly enough to cover the most basic living expenses.  But don't get me started on social policy! :-X

The most depressing "commercial," as opposed to public service announcement?
"Do you have anything to declare?"
"Diarrhea!"

I don;t know about SSI, but here is a near-horror story about a woman who used to work for me who filed for SURVIVOR SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS for her child.

Back in the 80's, this unmarried woman, whose biological clock was ticking, placed an ad in the newspaper for a "sperm donor" so that she could have a child.  Was not done by artificial insemination, but rather the "old fashioned" way.  She then had no contact whatsoever with the biological father.

About 9 or 10 years later, she had a boyfriend.  This boyfriend did not live with her.  He was not married to her.  They were not in a "common law" marriage.  Anyway, the guy must have been a decent bloke,  8) because he allowed this woman's daughter to call him "Daddy".  Nice guy, I guess, because this girl's mother was a real piece of work.

Anyway, "Daddy" had a heart attack and died.  As a result, my employee filed for Social Security Survivor Benefits for her daughter, because her "Father" had died.  As evidence of the relationship, she said that "Daddy" had left his truck to them in his will.

Given that the deceased was neither the biological not adopted father of the child, and was neither the legal husband or even common-law husband of the mother, the Social Security Administration told her to "Jam it".

She tried to tell all of us at work as to how much she got "screwed" and we told her to shut up and get a life.  >:(

Clearly, Social Security needs a Complete overhaul.

Anyone have their house destroyed by a Fire?

They weren't all depressing, some of them were quite hilarious.  I had a poster once that read:

This is your brain.
This is your brain on drugs.
This is your brain with a side order of bacon.

Ok, the parody's were funny I guess...

That Horrible depressing Gloomy commercial by
Klein,Wagner and Morris,

That commercial is Degrading to the Disabled, and to the Social Security Administration.
Thank goodness, they no longer show it.

On that last repetitive note, we lock the thread.
