Subject: Cruelty to the Trix rabbit

Written By: Satish_1 on 12/17/03 at 00:14 a.m.

You know those ads for Trix breakfast cereal? They have a cartoon rabbit that wants to try the cereal, but the kids won't let him. They tell him "Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids." Am I the only one who finds those ads revolting? They encourage unkindness and cruelty. I feel so bad for the rabbit. All he wants to do is try some Trix. What's wrong with that?

And on top of that, those ads perpetuate the idea of class privilege, too. The idea that only certain groups in society should have access to certain things is totally outdated. Saying something like "Trix are just for kids" goes completely against the concept of equality.

Don't even get me started on those Lucky Charms ads with the cartoon leprechaun. They encourage stealing, not to mention bigotry against the Irish.

Never interpreted these commercials this deeply, yikes, maybe that's the advertisers' ploy, to brainwash us!  Anyway, I do remember the Trix rabbit not getting any trix, and it was kind of sad.  Don't buy much Trix because it's not as sweet as it originally was, and the crunch is a bit annoying, will get some soon to check it out.

I'm in agreement with you. I always thought those commercials to be terrible concepts created by small-minded, boorish people.

I do remember reading about how there once was a commercial campaign in which the rabbit finally got to have his Trix. I would like to have seen that.

As far as the Lucky Charms leprechaun, I think it's just a bad stereotype.

Interesting Topic! Thanks for sharing.

The only folklore I know about leprechauns is from Darby O'gill and the Little People.  They were very shrewd and could be dangerous if crossed.  The vision of the banshee was kind of a scary thing for a little kid to see, and I remember it to this day, at least my body has grown up.

Do they ever show those commercials anymore? Maybe next week they'll show Fred and Barney in the Fruity Pebbles commmercial where they try to give some cereal to Santa Claus.Or something like that. :)

It was a differnet case for cookie crook because he use to steal cereal from the kiddies and so there was a reason why the cookie cop wouldn't give him any cookie crisp.  The situation with the Trix rabbit is just abuse! It's becasue he's a rabbit and kids are angry at him because he didn't bring them any easter goodies on easter. And so for centuries they've been rebelling against him.

The story behind The Lucky Charms is a mystery, but I heard that the Cocoa puffs bird wanted the lucky charms all for himself  >:(

How about Fred and Barney? They'd be fighting over a silly bowl of cereal and Barney'd be screaming at him cause he stole his box and after that they'd make up.

No, they're just angry because kids refuse to eat their cereal. And Barney figures they don't have a chance and so they have to argue with each other becasue it's all they have left to do.   ;D

Why are they stereotyping, and why is it bigotry against the Irish?  Why is it cruelty to animals?  It's a freaking commercial plot people.  They're CARTOONS.

This is too funny.

My view is the ad guys on Madison ave were really putting there own subconsious anxities onto the cereal mascots.. very high-pressure jobs...selling super sugar filled air-puffs to wide-eyed kids in front of the TV alone on Saturday morning..controling the outcome of the future of the free world..

CoCo Puffs birdy -obviously a substance abuse problem, he needs to get to betty ford and get off the CoCo Puffs and away from all chocolate in general.
Ditto, Tucan Sam, follow my nose, it alway knows? Coke problem, duh.
Trix rabbit-has had some family issues, not enough attention from mom/dad and obviously the siblings never let him play or particapate, the door-mat type that will let people/kids step all over them to get some trix/attention or be accepted. And the rainbow colors, is he in the closet? Nothing wrong with it..time to come out.
Lucky Charms leprechaun-probably has some problems with his indentity. Yes he's a bad sterotype, but like those people who tend to overplay their persona, you tend to supspect they're not really confortable with themselves. Keeps adding more shaps and colors, like the old ones were not good enough. Need to be reasurred that its o.k. to be himself..
Fruity & Co-Co Pebbles- My belief is that Barney is jealous of Freds life, Wilma & Pebbles (after all the cereal is named after Fred's daughter, right). Barney & Betty adopted Bam-bam, maybe couldn't have children on their own, plus Barney is height challanged. Lots of resentment on the part of ol' Barn towards Fred.
Tony the Tiger-cannot memtion due to agreed court agreement, file sealed.
**Please, I'm just joking, don't read so much into it, it was just cereal.**

We never needed a mascot telling us that this cereal is nutricious. We'll just have to find out for ourselves. >:(

I apologize.  I was expressing MY opinion and did not mean to offend anyone.  I won't answer the posts I don't have anything nice to say about anymore.
