What year was "Pump Up The Jam" by Technotronic a hit? 1989 or 1990 or was it just released in late 89 and continued to chart into 90?

According to The Guinness Book of Hit Singles, 'Pump up the Jam' by Technotronic charted in Britain on 2 September 1989 and hit no 2.

www.top40db.net says it emerged october 89, so it probably came out late in 89 and hit its peak in 1990.

Well, I only remember the video with him/her in a backwards cap, so it's either a really youthful-looking/sounding guy, or a wild party girl with a somewhat raspy voice....
Anyway, I have Billboard's Top Hits CD of 1990, and on it was Pump up the Jam. I also have it on "Club Mix: the 90s," listed as 1990. So it may have been released as a 1989 single, but as it was said before, it became a 90s hit.
I wonder where they are now..?

PUMP UP THE JAM came out in mid November of 1989, but was big at around the turn of the decade (1989 --> 1990) just like another big klub anthem...
