Subject: Underrated

Ive always felt that as a 90's band Alice in Chains was underrated.  Nirvana got all the pub b/c Kurt blew his brains out.

I miss good ole grunge.

I was never an Alice in Chains fan but I know tons of people who live and die for them. Unrrated, you're probably right but they are definetly big with lots of fans. Nirvana in my opinion gets too much credit (although I own a few of there CD's and zero AInC Cd's.) I don't miss grunge so much as I miss what that time stood for. It was a good time for me.

Sure wish we could revist it though! :D

AIC were a great band, their Dirt and jar 'o flys releases came out pretty big.  Agreed that Nirvana got more press but it was smell's like teen spirit that brought grunge mainstream.
It was a darn shame Layne Staley died, strange that a front man for a great band can lay dead and undiscovered in his home for a month. :(

At least the Greatest Rock Band of ALL Time- aka Pearl Jam, is still producing good music.

I used to listen to Heaven Beside You late at night when I was supposed to be sleeping....Loved that song!

I didn't really get much into AIC, but even so, when I heard about Layne Staley's death, I was pretty shaken up.  I don't care who it is.  If you waste away for years because of addictions you can't beat and then lie dead for two weeks in your apartment before anyone finds you, that's sad!   :'(

AIC was a great band. Too bad Layne just couldn't get some help or something. I don't think he was ever married or anything like that. He was just very much the loaner type and kept to himself. Basically he let all his emotions out when he wrote songs. I wish the guy could have gotten some happiness in his life but it just didn't happen for him.

Mother Love Bone never got the chance it deserved, either. They were the Seattle band who paved the way for all the others who followed. The band was led by singer Andrew Wood, who, unfortunately, overdosed immediately following the records release party for the band's first commercial LP, "Apple." What a shame.

I love the song "Would?" that AIC did for Andrew Wood.

Along with Mother Love Bone I would include Mudhoney, The Melvins, and Screaming Trees as groups that never really get the recognition they deserve.

Perhaps they're better off in "Sweet Oblivion"? ;)  I loved that Screaming Tree's tune.  Damn shame about Andrew Wood too, but we did get to Temple of the Dog and Pearl Jam out of his loss.
