Subject: MTV 500

Does anybody remember the "MTV 500" video countdown that ran for a week during the mid 1990's? (during the Spring)
Or the VH1 video history A to Z that ran during the Fourth of July weekend during the same time.

I actually taped several  videos on 8 or 9  blank tapes, but
I gave them away in 1998 to an aquaintance.

Unfortunately, MTV stopped aring it in 1998. Right when MTV gotten even worse with TRL and "Who Wants to be an MTV VJ" contest.

I thought the VH1 A to Z show was so awesome.  Why don't they do that any more?  :-/

The VH1 A to Z show was last seen in 1998.
(Same year when MTV aired their final "MTV 500" special)

I know that VH1 stopped airing their music video based shows ("The Big 80's", "Sex Appeal", "Women's First", etc.) in 1997.

1997 was also the year VH1 started airing "Pop Up Video" & "Behind The Music".

Now it's a clone of E! with a bit of current MTV...with all the specials with/featuring current teenybopper acts and  rappers.

Can I get an Amen.  VH1 has turned to crap, but at least it didn't drop as fast as MTV, which went from good to awful almost overnight.

I still say VH1 is better than MTV, not by much though.  Why VH1 is trying to be like MTV I don't know.  Man I need to get VH1 Classic so I have a decent music station to watch since all I get at my house is VH1 and MTV.

I remember a countdown where you could call in and vote on the best video ever.  Two bad there were only five choices, and they just happened to be the five most popular videos at the time.  What a lame countdown.  ::)
