I'm surprised that the grunge bands of the time like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden aren't on there.
Subject: Re: BILLBOARD TOP HITS: 1993
They hadn't quite infiltrated the mainstream by then.

Are you kidding? By 1993 they definately had infiltrated the mainstream. You're only 16, so you were way too young to remember the early 1990's anyway. Both Pearl Jam and Nirvana broke through in 1991. Believe me they were known by '93, as was the whole grunge thing.
But I think neither of them had a Billboard Top Ten Hit excpet Nirvana with "Smells Like Teen Spirit", and that was probably in either 1991 or 1992.
Subject: Re: BILLBOARD TOP HITS: 1993
Ooh ! I vote for :
1. Ordinary World - Duran Duran
2. I'm gonna be (500 miles) - The Proclaimers
3. Bad Boys (Theme from Cops) - Inner Circle
Subject: Re: BILLBOARD TOP HITS: 1993
Out of that list, I only like #9. And I had someone tell me that that song was from 1997, not 1993. Oh well.

Actually there are two very different songs called 'Show Me Love' - one by Robin S in '93, and one by Robyn in '97/'98? I'm sure it has confused many other people besides me for years :]
Subject: Re: BILLBOARD TOP HITS: 1993
O.K. The only songs I actually like are
"Mr. Wendel" by Arrested Development and "Ordinary World"
by Duran Duran. 8)
The Proclaimers, "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" is OK. :)
The rest,in my opinion, are quite annoying and glad that they aren't played that much on the radio any more.
I actually am confused about Robin S's "Show Me Love" '93 and a different song (same title) by a different artist with asimilar name! Well, all I know that she's (Robyn) was a teen queen. Yes, Britney Spears wan't the first '90's teen queen.
Much like Stacey Q ("Two Of Hearts",1986) who came before Debbie (now Deborah) Gibson. ::)
Subject: Re: BILLBOARD TOP HITS: 1993
I liked these back then:
Rhythm is a dancer - Snap!
I'm gonna be (500 miles) - The Proclaimers
All that she wants - Ace of Base
Mr. Wendel - Arreseted Development
Ordinay World - Duran Duran
Informer - Snow
Whoopm! (There it is) - Tag Team
Today I'd still listen to:
Ordinay World - Duran Duran
The rest of the ones I listed initially I'd only listen to in a club setting; I wouldn't listen to them otherwise.
Subject: Re: BILLBOARD TOP HITS: 1993
I can add a couple: "Can't Help Falling In Love" by UB40 was a No. 1 Billboard hit that here. I'm pretty sure about that. What about Mariah Carey's "Anytime You Need a Friend"? I know she had a string of number 1 hits. I don't know if that was one of them though. Meatloafs "I'd Do Anything For Love" was up there to on the charts that year. I think "Hip Hop Hooray" by Naughty By Nature had to be up there too. Also "Freak Me" by Silk was a top R&B song in 93 I think.

Well actually, yes they had. Kurt Cobain killed himself in April 1994, don't forget. By 1993 the Seattle rock boom was at its peak, but I think the reason none of the big three bands are on the top ten list is because they either didn't release a song that year (Soundgarden), or they were released too late in the year to sell enough to get on the list. 'Heart-Shaped Box' wasn't as big a seller as 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and the big selling single from "Vs." wasn't released until the end of the year.

maybe it came out in late 1992 cause every list of top 40 hits/top 100 end of year hits has it 1993.

Soundgarden had a big rock hit in 94 with "Black Hole Son". "Interstate Love Song" was a big hit in 94 for Stone Temple Pilots. I thnk Candlebox had a hit in 93 with "Far Behind".

Me personally I actually thought "Come Undone" was FAR SUPERIOR to "Ordinary World". It just has this surreal sound to it.
To some topics above--
The grunge bands DID chart in 1991 or 1992, but in 1993 they hadn't released their second albums until later in the year as Goreripper pointed out. Nirvana's "In Utero" and Pearl Jam's "Vs" both came out in the Fall of '93. I don't think Soundgarden released anything that year. But they were very, very WELL KNOWN by 1992/'93. Kurt Cobain killed himself in early 1994, and that was basically the end of Nirvana, the grunge movement kinda dragged on a couple more years till 1996 and then it was over.
From 1997 and on it's been bubblegum teen music like Spice Girls, BSB, N'SYNC, Britney, etc .

I'll disagree with that. From 1997-2000 the teen-pop thing was hot. From 2001 and on its been rappers like Ja Rule, Eminem, and Nelly that have dominated. You can sprinkle in Alicia Keys, and Norah Jones in there too. Ashanti is also big popularity wise.

I thought Rhythm Is a Dancer was from '95.

I don't think she will be around these parts anymore. Apparently she did a "live performance" that cost $90 a ticket, and she "played" for half an hour.

ACK! I cannot stand her! Why is she constantly being nominated for awards? She has a terrible voice & if you have ever seen her perform live, she SUKS! Is it because she is Ja Rule's little protege? Because he isn't all that either! :-/
Sorry, just voicing my "humble" opinion, again. ::)

I'll agree Ja Rule and Ashanti aren't really that good but they are popular. I don't know why she gets nominated for all these awards. There are better singers out there like Deborah Cox, and Tamia that deserve recognition in the R&B world.

LOL! I have never seen her in concert (personally I'd rather wash a monkeys @ss than see her in person) but she does look like she lip syncs when she is singing on tv programs. :D
Subject: Re: BILLBOARD TOP HITS: 1993
Bands like Soundgarden, STP and Nirvana are not going to show up much on a Billboard Top-40 chart. While they received a lot of airplay on Alternative and Rock stations, they were lucky to even cross over to Top-40 (a/k/a "Hot A/C" and "CHR"). When they made it to these more "mainstream" formats, they typically did not chart as high. Billboard charts are based on sales and airplay. But the chart known as "Billboard" is based on the Top-40 chart, unless otherwise specified.

1. Rhythm is a dancer - Snap!
Didn't like this one, but I think they had another popular one that was funky, funky, funky...
2. I'm gonna be (500 miles) - The Proclaimers
Neat little song. I thought it was funny. Girlfriend and I would laugh whenever we heard it on the radio.
3. Bad Boys (Theme from Cops) - Inner Circle
A song I hate to admit that I liked. :-4. Ditty - Paperboy
Umm, I don't remember this one... ???
5. All that she wants - Ace of Base
Never cared for it.
6. Mr. Wendal - Arreseted Development
I'm sure I've heard this one, but I can't remember how it goes... :-7. Ordinay World - Duran Duran
Excellent! One of my faves from DD. Bittersweet.
8. Informer - Snow
I haven't the foggiest... ???
9. Show me love - Robin S.
The title rings a bell, but... ???

id say 2001 was the transition
if you look at a lot of the hits youll see O-Town, Dream, Nelly(Ride With Me, 1st album, which is definitely part of that bubblegum era) Destiny's Child, Backstreet Boys with their usual ballads, Edens Crush, Mariah with Loveryboy(mauling a great Cameo song though), Lil Romeo, Janet Jackson, while also mixing in there J.Lo & Ja Rule, Fabolous, Alicia Keys, Nelly Furtado, Usher with his new style, Ludacris, Petey Pablo, the R&B version of Nsync, Busta Rhymes new style, City High, R.Kellys new style, Lifehouse, Nickelback, etc...but 2002 is definitely not part of that bubblegum era IMO.

2001-2002 seems to be like R&B, rap, and everything else goes era. You look at R&B artists like R. Kelly, Usher, and Alicia Keys. Rap music: 50 Cent, Jay-Z, Eminem, Ja Rule, and Nelly(Yeah he is part of the bubblegum era.) Than you have the everything else goes musical styles: Kylie Minoque with her disco stuff, Norah Jones with her pop/jazz stuff, and System of A Down with their new metal stuff, and Staind with their grunge influences. I think Petey Pabo, Fabolous, and Ludicras are on their way out. Lifehouse and Nickleback will be remebered like Tesla and Night Ranger. 3 Doors Down(Progressive Rock Band) are borderline: could either fade out or stay in the spotlight. In my opinion they are like Spin Doctors or a 3rd Eye Blind type of band.

You're right both of those songs were in heavy rotation on the modern rock station I listened to back then. No Excuses is a great song and still one of my favorites, and the whole reason I bought that album in the first place. I hadn't really listened to many AIC songs that much other before then other than Man in the Box and Would?. Was I in for a surprise when I went back and bought their earlier album, Facelift and listened to it for the first time! It was just a tad bit louder that Jar of Flies.
I still miss that band, they were very talented.
