Subject: Who else thinks most 90s music sounds the same?
IMO, most 90s music has sounded all the same. You heard one grunge or alternative song, and you heard just about all of these stupid folky ballad type songs. And it's still the same way now in the 00s.
Everything sounds the SAME. That's my beef with the 90s.

I personally don't think that Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Dinosaur Jr., Mudhoney sound alike at all.IMO, they all had distinct sounds and lyrical stylings.

Isn't it the other way around, my friend ;D
Everything in the 00s, so far, sounds the same. I honestly can't tell the difference between Michelle Branch and that other dak-haired girl with the piano. There is no variety, whereas in the 90s, we had different genres and singers. The 90s weren't only about Pearl Jam, and Nirvana. There was also harmony-based groups like Wild Orchid and Color me Badd. 8)

I do, you can hear a song from 1995 (I was 11 then)and it still sounds new. All the other eras up until 1993 had their own distinct sound for each year. Now it's all the same, I don't think they can go any further with technology now with the synthesizers.

not to me, because i remember how we had the leftover 80's sound(cathy dennis, mc hammer, bobby brown, etc.) the Grunge, the Gangsta Rap, Alternative rock with a little feeling & emotion(Gin Blossoms, Alanis) Hip Hop Soul(aaliyah, brandy, monica, mary j blige, swv). And for me me, i was able to distinguish who was who cause they all had their own little things where i could tell who was who. then in the late 90's, to me it was easy to distinguish between nsync and the backstreet boys christina and brtiney, enrique and Ricky, etc. So uh, no, everybody was not a knock off of each other(except maybe for the electro-dance music, i mean who really knew the difference between Corona & Real Mccoy? Cece Penistion and C&C music factory?)

I don't think all 90's music sounds the same. Pearl Jam, STP, AIC, Soundgarden, Green Day, Offspring, Live, and Nirvana all sounded different. I can tell the difference between Mariah Carey and Toni Braxton. Britney and Jessica Simpson sounded like Janet Jackson and Celine Dion clones. N'Sync and Backstreet when they first came out they all sounded the same. On the later work you could tell the difference between the 2(I'm not saying those 2 artists are good music though.) I could tell the difference between Alanis Morisette and Sarah Mclaughin(Lilith Fair Artists.) Mary J, and Faith Evans don't sound the same(they are sometimes compared.)

Not exactly. If you think about 1999, it sounds the same as it does today.

No quite. The teen-pop thing has faded. Rap music still sounds the same. Rap-Rock is gone with the exception of Linkin Park and Kid Rock(Sheryl Crow has boosted his record sales big time.)

Me!!
Corona was so so awful!!! I liked the Real McCoy back in the day. Whenever I hear 'Another Night' and 'Love and Devotion', it instantly transports me back to the school discos when I was 10.

I'd actually go one step further and say the Gin Blossoms music had "a lot of feeling and emotion". I'd qualify that statement based on the album New Miserable Experience. The man who wrote many of the songs on that album was kicked out of the band just as the album was completed in the studio. Around the time the band hit it big, he tragically killed himself in 1993. While the music is upbeat and catchy, the lyrics about alcoholism, depression, and lost love are haunting and very sad...
