Subject: 90's girls
early 90's girls were the best, sorta grungy but not quite. You know, short straight hair coming down over the ears but never below the shoulders, plaid shirts, jean wear, timberlands, overalls or dresses with the t-shirt underneath
i.e. Courteney Cox from 94 http://www.courteneyarquette.com/gallery/movies/sketchartists/017.jpg
I adore that look, sort of relaxed and cuddly, nowadays everybody is a fucking skank.

I agree with you! I like this early 90s-style, too!
Subject: Re: 90's girls
Hey!!! I still dress like this...are you saying I'm out of style??? ;)
Subject: Re: 90's girls
If that photo is from 1994, wouldn't that be mid 90s?
Not to be anal or anything, just something I thought I would point out.

I still consider 94 early 90's for some reason.
Actually I like to break it down, 90-95 were the true 90's, and 96-00 were the "crap 90's where everything sucks and we're still living in this era why won't it go away???"
god bless any girl who still dresses like this, it didn't really go out of style but was pushed into the background by the "Britney slut generation" that came to power in 97 I think, whenever she made "Hit me one more time"

I dissagree a break it down into three sections:
(These years are aproximate)
90-93: 80's shows were still on tv, many artists from earlier decades could still have a top 40 hit, grunge was starting to become popular.
94-96: Grunge is in full swing, Gangster rap is popular, many previous artist are now off the charts.
97-99: Teen pop is popular, (C)rap-rock is the next big thing.

^^IMO, I always felt that the true 90s, or "real" 90s were from the second half of 1991 to early 1998. Mariah Carrey, Boyz II Men, Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Green Day, Seinfeld, Friends, 90210, and when The Simpsons were still good----Those were the real 1990s.
Everything from the second half of 1998 to the present is something else. It's something that sorta looks like the 90s, but not really with all it's bubblegum teeny pop and teenage skanks running around.
The real 90s almost fits the same pattern of the real part of the 1980s. Which I always felt was everything 1980 to 1987. Or if you want to get real liberal, you could even count 1979 as the early genesis of the 80s. With 1988 to early 1991 being the "phase out" period of the 80s where everything was going out of style and the 90s were coming in.

I have to say grunge was in full swing from 91-94, but once Kurt died, grunge died for me. It was still around from 94-96, but it was dying out. Grunge was gone by 97, that was the "in between" year, death of grunge before the rise of teeny pop and crap rock.

I think the real 90's period was from 1992-1998. I think once Britney Spears came out with "Baby One More Time" in December 1998 the "real 90's period" was over. Its weird I graduated high school in 1998 and in late 1999 everything had changed. The music scene started to change: Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock, Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, and Mandy Moore wrere all big. In 1996 stuff like Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men, STP, AIC, and Pearl Jam was still on the charts at least going double platinum. 1997-1998 were the years of R&B and Rap: Aaliyah, Dru Hill, Puff Daddy, Mase, Monica, and Brandy were on the charts at that time. Pop-Rock bands like Verve, Marcy Playground, 3eb, Matchbox 20, and Fastball had hits during 1997-1998. 1999-2000 was pathetic except for Red Hot Chilli Peppers when they released "Califorinacation". As for the 80's I thought the 80's started in 1983 with Madonna and Cyndi Lauper hitting big. Also new Wave Bands like New Order, Depeche Mode, Human League were popular at that time. Around 1987 the music started to change and became more "urban". Dance Music was huge: Paula Abdul, Jody Watley, Taylor Dayne, Bobby Brown, Keith Sweat, Gloria Estefan, and Stevie B were all racking up hits at that time. The real 80's were from 1983-1989 I think. 1990-1991 things were a little 80's still 1992 changed all that.
