Subject: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
I would say Bush, they are the coolest band of the 90s, they are also my favorite. I also liked a few of oasis's stuff.
I also liked some of Creed's earlier stuff.
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
Well, thiers a lot of 90's I liked, but if I had to choose only one, I would say Pearl Jam and heres the reasons why:
They were insturmental in the 90s rock movement (For better or worse)
Their Albums and Hit songs span the whole decade (Although thier first charted hit wasn't until 95)
They can play thier own insturments.
When you listen to Creed, or Three Doors Down, or default, whats the first thing that pops into your head? Hey they sound like nirvana? No, its hey they sound like Pearl Jam.
I know a lot purist think creed sounds different than Pearl Jam, but if you claim that the first thing you thought after hearing "My Own Prison" wasn't "Man I gotta get that new Pearl Jam EP" your lying.

Me too. God TB, your getting so predictable! :D
My choice is probably REM - fantastic songs in both the late 80's and 90's, and then Oasis coming at a close second.

Okay, Radiohead, aside. I also really liked Alice In Chains, Tool, and Soundgarden. Unfortunately, their output is not nearly as much as Radiohead (songs that I like, I mean) - not to mention that I don't hear that many bands that have a similar sound to them, except for Pink Floyd (especially in the 1967-1979 timeline. Syd Barrett was crazy, but, man, he was a true visionary :D ).

Just for the record, the only reason Pearl Jam didn't have their first pop hit here in the U.S. until the Fall of '94 is because the band and their label (Epic/Sony) were against releasing any commercial singles prior to that time, for fear of cutting into album sales (a philosophy I personally have never believed in). But finally, in 1995, they released a flood of CD singles here from their earlier albums, and several of them ("Jeremy", "Daughter", etc.) reached the lower ranks of the pop chart due to moderately high sales...
However, all of their hit songs were tracked over on both the AOR and Alternative charts, since songs don't have to be available as commercial singles to be eligible for either. And on those charts, "Alive" was their first hit in the Winter of '92, followed by "Even Flow", "Jeremy", "Black", "Crazy Mary", etc...

Sorry for my aim, TB. Next time I'll throw something softer perhaps :) I've actually never got into Radiohead, despite many peoples attempts. I guess when they were at their peak I was still quite young and into, erghh*shudders at thought* pop music erghh. I don't mind a few of their singles now (such as 'No Alarms..., Karma Police), but I guess I haven't heard that much of their other stuff to really get me into the music.

Must admit I did quite like a lot of the album tracks of Savage Gardens first album, as well as the singles. 'Carry On Dancing', 'Tears Of Pearls' and 'Break Me Shake Me' immediatly come to mind as such tracks.
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
Pearl Jam was the greatest in the 90s. And I also liked Green Day, Everclear, The Replacements, and (solely on their music) Ministry.
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
Good call on "Ministry" J.C. "Psalm: 69" was among the best best selling albums of the decade beating-out some album by some singer some year... ???
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
I think Pearl Jam was the best band of the 90's. Pearl Jam defined music from 1992-1996. I also liked tons of of other bands. My favorite band of the 90's was Stone Temple Pilots along with Alice In Chains. I also liked Green Day, NIN, Sublime, Soundgarden, and Red Hot Chillli Peppers just to name a few.

What about the Levellers?Did they happen at all in America??
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
Sounds like a bright bunch of people here. Pearl Jam is not jsut the best band of the '90s but I argue the best band of all time. They're releasing a new album in the next month or two.
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
Pearl Jam was excellent. I have to say though, i prefer ther older stuff. LoL...my mom and i fight over my p.j. cd's cause she wants em.
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
Didn't the Replacements all but break up before the 90's happened?
My favorite bands will always be the Foo Fighters and Ben Folds Five, probably not in that order.
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
1991, Westerberg released his solo record in 96.

Nirvana by far! I am a big Nirvana fan! Here's my top 10:
10: Soundgarden
9: Green Day
8: The Offspring
7: Bush
6: 311
5: Weezer
4: Stone Temple Pilots ( The 90's STP)
3: Pearl Jam
2: I dunno........ 2 is always hard.
1: Nirvana
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
Tough to say best. I'd say close between STP & Filter. Can't deny that Nirvana & PJ revolutionized the "Alternative" Rock industry, however. Also thought Collective Soul, Saigon Kick & Soul Asylum were pretty good, too.
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
hi. I'm new.
I really liked Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots, and Porno for Pyros.
Now I'm going retro and I am re-discovering Guns n Roses.
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
NIRVANA
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
TOOL
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
G-N-R were great, they just let that rockn-roll ego, gotta do drugs, drink bofor shows, and delay and cancel concerts at the last minute bring them down. To bad, I give them credit to being the transition between big hair sex, cars, and sex bands to grunge music.

Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
I don't know if you can consider a vocal group a "band", but my favorite group to come out of the 90s is the Spice Girls.
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
The Spice Girls !!!??? OMG :o No, no, no, no, NO !
I'm agreeing with the majority...either Nirvana or Pearl Jam.
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Metallica, and Red Hot Chili Peppers!
Oh yeah...and that rock back that Ice T had that made that cut Cop Killer...
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
Danzig........
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
I actually reckon nirvana ended at a good time (obviously not for kurt and the team, but i think u know what i mean) I think if nirvana where still around today, they would sound really poor and old etc. And also, would the Foo Fighters be around if Kurt hadnt died and nirvana was still around today???
On the topic... Dave Grohl is the best drummer ever! well sorta... hes in 3 of my best bands so he must b!

I agree. Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, etc could not have had the success without groups like MudHoney, Screaming Trees, The Jayhawks, and the original PearlJam+ Soundgarden group Mother Love Bone. Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots, all of them were great. Alice in Chains (yes!). Chili Peppers gave their greatest impact to me and my friends in the 80's with Freaky Styley and Mothers Milk. Most ppl don't realize that the Peppers were around long before the 90's rolled in. ;)
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
Alice in Chains was my favorite 90's band without a doubt! Primus is another one of my favorites, they were my first concert!
Subject: Re: Who is the best rock band of the 90s?
Nirvana
Pearl Jam
Soundgarden
Blind Melon
Creed
Weezer
Alice in Chains
Chris Isaak
Nickelback
I don't know of many 90s bands though. I mostly know about 60s, 70s, 80s bands.
