Subject: REM

Written By: Criz on 05/24/02 at 10:30 a.m.

Anyone like REM? Have to say they're a band which don't get a lot of mention on the boards. Some of their songs are fantstic, especially the early 90's stuff. Top 5 would be:

Loosing My Religion
Man On The Moon
Nightswimming
Daysleeper
Whats The Frequency, Kenneth?

:)

Radio Free Europe
Bang and Blame
Me In Honey
So. Central Rain
It's The End Of The World As We Know It
The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite

<edited to add:>

Everybody Hurts

There aren't many REM songs that I could say I didn't like.  Great band...memorable songs.

I love REM and all of the above mentioned songs(to avoid listing them).  There is one I'd like to add:
Leave (from New Adventures in Hi-Fi)

Their more recent song "The Great Beyond" was good, too.

I happen to be a fan of the song "Imitation Of Life". I love singing that song, whenever alone. After all, nobody can get embarrassed that way.

And of course Losing My Religion and Everybody Hurts.

My two particular favorites are:

Losing My Religion
Everybody Hurts

Speaking of "Everybody Hurts," since tomorrow is Memorial Day in the U. S. (the Monday holiday; the real Memorial Day is Thursday); everybody who has lost someone has got to hurt tomorrow.  Especially Banasy and Rock & Roll Fan, who have lost sons…

Forever in my thoughts, RnR, Banasy and anyone else, although, I personally won't celebrate the holiday, being British...

If I could sing like anyone in pop music, I'd choose Michael Stipe (although Sting would run him a close second).

Fall On Me is good, too.

it's the end of the world as we know it

King of Birds

Oh yeah.
One of the few bands that have stood the test of time.
Agree with all of the above songs PLUS the overlooked "Star Me Kitten" from Automatic For The People.
I understand it as saying, "Well, we're over and done with  and I don't like you anymore and don't want you around

but we can still DO IT."   ;)

I've been an R.E.M. fan for years and years, and though I have lost touch with their more recent material, there are still very few songs of theirs that I don't like. The only ones I can think of off the top of my head would be:

Shiny Happy People
Near Wild Heaven
Out Of Time and Monster really did nothing for me
Imitation Of Life

Everything else, especially their early stuff, I love. :)

Absolutely Vile

My personal favorite is "You are the Everything".  I'd also like to mention "Fireplace" from Document and "Try not to breathe" from Automatic for the people.  Two great tunes worth acquainting yourselves with.  :D

I used to LOVE R.E.M! Now I'm a fan, but not a big fan.

I like "Welcome To The Occupation" from Document
Orange Crush from Green
I Remember California ( I think that's the title) from Green

I would never consider myself an R.E.M fan but I like a few of their songs.

'Man on the moon'
'Shiny happy people'
'What's the frequency, Kenneth'

Interesting group with a varied output - but I always thought 'em a mite too pretentious and po-faced for my liking...

That said, they did appear on Sesame Street once performing 'Happy Furry Monsters' - a take off of 'Shiny Happy People', with an assortment of muppets! Anyone seen this?

But I will be buying the Greatest Hits (recently released)...that's about all I need to know...!

I'm considering getting it too, since I do have Eponymous, their greatest hits from 1981-1987, and this one looks like the long-awaited continuation of that. I no longer have any of their albums past Green because I'm planning on getting what I can on vinyl. I have seen some of R.E.M.'s more recent albums on LP!! :D
