Subject: Gloria & Self Control by Laura Brannigan - Disco or not

These two songs were hits in 1982 and 1984 respectively. Wikipedia lists them as being in the subgenre of Italo Disco. I was wondering if you feel both of these are indeed Disco songs?

Gloria, maybe. Not Self Control though
The original 1984 version of Self Control by Raf though does, so maybe that's why they they classed the Laura version as Disco as well

"Gloria" is more that Gorgio Moroder kind of electro-disco. Never heard the other one so I can't say. I never understood the staying power of that bombastic, bellow-y "Gloria" song. But it gets played at weddings and everything, so somehow it has crossed over to the realm of being a standard. Beats me.

Self Control is another Moroder written song.

Neither.
I love both songs, but neither one comes across to me as disco. (However, one of them is considered "Italo disco", according to wikipedia.)
