The 80s became the time of style over substance after the debut of MTV. In the mid to late 80s, there was almost nothing but new overproduced music.

Totally agree. The massive layering is part of what made the 80s sound so fun!

Don’t be fooled by the positive, upbeat sound to these songs. I would be seriously embarrassed to bop or sing to any of these songs out in public.

Everyone is different. My parents never liked the overproduced music in the 80s, 90s, and 2000s. I see what they mean nowadays.
