Subject: Various people and things that peaked in the 1980s
Written By: yelimsexa on 02/24/20 at 10:08 am
Longtime posters like myself by now are pretty well aware at most of the general trends that peaked during the '80s, such as mullets, slasher films, cassette tapes, video arcades, and superstar Michael Jackson, but there are many odds and ends from various disciplines that tend to be forgotten, even if many events aren't exactly cultural. I'll get things started with these:
*In the 1980s, hunting participation in the US peaked with around 17 million
*The Fijian psychoactive brew Kava
*Mexican singer José José
*Russian singer Valery Leontiev
*The German liebfaumlich Blue Nun, selling over two million cases annually
*Oil production in California
*Corporate megabooster T. Boon Pickens
*Serial homicides in the US, with 2,670 in all
*In 1987, one out of five mattress sold in the US were waterbeds
*BMX vehicles and racing
