Seems to be a thing at the moment - this guy puts an 80s spin on today's current hits. Some are pretty good.

The production definitely sounds 1985, as does the photoshopping (the Ariana Grande one is truly nutso), but the songs themselves are still pretty easy to identify as having been written well after the 1980s. Somewhere in the 90s or 2000s, the melodic nature of popular music transformed dramatically; this is really the one major way in which 80s music is closer to stuff from the 60s than to the few decades that followed it.

Justin Bieber would've been better in the 80s. At least we wouldn't have to hear terrible modern pop noises if he was popular in the 20th century.

If I had heard them on the radio I would have thought they were 80's songs.
