During the first half of the year, I was in 3rd grade at a private school; during the second half, I was in 4th grade at a public school.

I turned 3 in May. Mom threw a party, no one came. I feel so cheated.

I was 12 going on 13 in 1989. That was a big year for me as I moved from the Far East to the UK mid-year. Had fun throughout the whole year though. I remember Kylie, Paula Abdul, New Kids on the Block. Fashion was still quite 80s... high top sneakers. Though in the UK, hippie fashion started creeping in. I owned many a psychedelic hooded top. The middle parting hairstyle for guys started to creep in too.

I turned one in November, so I was only months old for most of the year!

I remember 1989 when the music of Tone Loc, Young MC and Paula Abdul was blasting through speakers.

I remember '89 like it was just yesterday. It was the last full year of the late 80s. In other words, my cousins in their Roger Rabbit and California Raisins pajamas were watching ALF from the beginning of the year to the end. Neon green, Batman logo and Hard Rock Cafe tops were popular with people my age. By the end of the year, Bobby Brown impersonators were everywhere. December of 1989 almost felt like a December in the early 1990s, but then again, there were people shouting, "Death to the 1980s." It was the first year of the HW Bush era, so films like The Little Mermaid and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure were in theaters.

I never realized that the Wall came down around the same time as my old life ended-within a few weeks of each other. I was in Greece when the Wall came down and I didn't know that it happened until I got back to the States.
