Subject: 1980s Made-For-TV Movies

Written By: yelimsexa on 04/04/14 at 8:15 am

By the 1980s, many Made-For-TV movies were often ripped out of current events. Though later in the decade, some cartoon series movies began to surface, often being canon with the regular series.  Many have never been released onto video, though some have surfaced on video-sharing sites such as Youtube. Post some MFTV movies, written and visual along with your opinions.

The Terry Fox Story (1983)
Starring Eric Fryer as Terry Fox, Chris Makepeace as Darrell Fox (Terry's brother) and Robert Duvall as Bill Vigars (Terry's publicist).  It is the true story of the Canadian amputee who ran across Canada on his "Marathon of Hope" to raise money for Cancer research.  It was nominated for 8 Genie Awards (Canada's version of the Academy Award), and although it was an HBO made for TV film for the US, it was a theatrical release in Canada and the UK

The complete movie is available for viewing on YouTube ...

Kate's Secret (1986) with Meredith Baxter all about bulimia. Good film despite the serious subject matter. It's also a nice time capsule for suburban life in the mid-80s.

Perhaps the "Thriller" of the Made-For-TV movies is The Day After (1983), the most watched Made-For-TV movie of all time. It still has a strong cult following today:
