Subject: The Goldbergs sitcom

Anyone watching this current sitcom set in the 80s? It's hilarious and packed with 80s references. Each episode just gets better and better. Can't praise it enough. The mother is the highlight of the show! The producer even includes original home video footage of his family, of which the show is loosely based on.

I saw an episode of this, and I really enjoyed it.  Jeff Garlin is a funny man.  I hope this show will last

I have mixed feelings on it.
For one thing, according to a lot of people I know who grew up in the 80s, it was very rare to find a mother that was THAT overprotected. Those who were kids/teens in the 80s were part of Generation X, a generation that was known for being greatly neglected during their upbringing. I'm not saying that having a mother like that in the 80s was impossible, just unlikely.
Also, the fact that is constantly has to rub it in your face that it takes place in the 80s, it's like "WE GET IT!" In That 70s Show, they didn't have to constantly reference that it was the 70s because they were able to show it properly without having to make constant references to the time.
Other than those two criticisms, the show isn't too bad. It's not really my favourite but I'll give it another watch.

I kinda like the constant reminders that it's set in the 80s - it's the whole premise of the show and personally it brings back a lot of memories. As for the mother - well it is a sitcom and it is television - I think it's allowed some outlandish artistic license. But yeah keep watching the episodes and cast development get better.

the clothes they wore and the lava lamps were some bit of references.

this may come out the wrong way but those who know me know I don't mean it in a hateful way....

there's a difference between an atypical 80s mother and a jewish mother of any era. lol

The reason I am willing to accept the characters real life counterparts are the way they are portrayed on the tv series is the inclusion of the real video clips at the end of each episode...somethings are just so crazy you simply can't make them up.
