Subject: Uncharted in North America: Gary Byrd and the GB Experience
Written By: whistledog on 07/16/13 at 1:49 pm
Quite unusual this one never charted in North America, since the group hails from The States. Their lone single was titled The Crown and was released in 1983. It was written by Gary Byrd and Stevie Wonder, and features a verse sung by Wonder himself.

First released on Wonder's record label Wondirection, later on Motown, it appeared as a 12" single only (clocking in at over 10 minutes in length), and peaked at #6 in the UK chart

I've hear of that. Something Egyptian. Maybe a pharaoh or a god.

It was a long, somewhat rambling 'rap'-type affair that dealt with human achievements from Ancient Egypt onwards, with a heavy emphasis on Black culture...
Was a success here mainly due to the emergence of dance music in the early 80s, not that it helped Mr. Byrd, as he had no further chart action...
I used to (and probably still do) get bored of the thing after three minutes! :P

I guess because of time constraints.
