Subject: National Lampoon's Vacation - 30th Anniversary
Written By: whistledog on 05/24/13 at 8:11 pm
This month sees the 30th anniversary of the comedy classic National Lampoon's Vacation with a Blu-Ray release featuring a new 85 minute documentary with new interviews of the cast and crew. With the added release of Vegas Vacation on Blu-Ray as well this month, all 4 original Vacation movies are now on Blu-Ray!

The Vacation legacy ...
National Lampoon's Vacation (1983)
National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985)
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation (1989)
Vegas Vacation (1997)
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation 2: Cousin Eddie's Island Adventure (2003)
Hotel Hell Vacation (2010)
Also in 2012, there was a series of Old Navy Christmas ads that featured both Clark (Chevy Chase) and Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo) as well as Audrey #1 (Dana Barron), Rusty #1 (Anthony Michael Hall), Rusty #2 (Jason Lively) and Audrey #3 (Juliette Lewis)
The theme song to the original Vacation was Holiday Road by Lindsey Buckingham, and though as a single, it only reached #82 on the US Hot 100, it's use in the franchaise has made the song widely known. It appears in every Vacation film with the exception of Christmas Vacation and Hotel Hell Vacation (I can't remember if it appeared in Christmas Vacation 2)

Oh, and just because I like mentioning this: In the original Vacation, Eddie's daughter Vicki is played by Jane Krakowski. She was last seen on the NBC hit comedy 30 Rock and also in a lot of men's fantasies ...

But they leave out Aunt Edna's line:
"Why don't you just ask him for the money, Eddie? He sure as hell can't take a hint!"

My faves are the first and Christmas. European was okay and I really didn't like Vegas.

I love the first vacation the best!!!
I got it on VHS but they messed up the song when Clark goes by that red car THE FIRST TIME!! (Its supposed to be "IM SO EXCITED" but its the other song heard later in the movie) -- The copy i recorded off HBO in the 80s is the original!! (I wanted to try and get a BETTER copy that what i have now (which i recorded in SLP mode (Which IS excellent but isnt in SP mode (Which is a better recording mode)))) but i can see it wont be easy doing it with this movie!

I think I saw the first one (1983), which would explain why it looked so late 70s/early 80s. I didn't know what year it came out yet until I came on here. Too lazy to search Wiki.

Did you know that European Vacation never had an actual soundtrack? Over the years, I have learned there are a lot of fans upset over this as there were some great songs that appear only in that movie and nowhere else. Here are the three in particular I am referring to ...
Danger Zone - Baby It's You, Yes I Am
(heard through Rusty's Walkman as they are on the train to Rome)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqYjnm7JBUY
Dr. John - New Looks
(played while they are shopping in Rome)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9SPuUntnno
Network - Back in America
(played over the closing credits)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=US_Wcp4LR38
Mp3 quality copies can be found of all but 'New Looks'. All the ones I can find are ripped straight from the movie. Someday I will find it. Someday!
