Subject: Uncharted in North America: Trevor Walters
Written By: whistledog on 03/07/13 at 8:03 am
Trevor Walters is a reggae singer from London, England. He is best remembered for his cover version of Lionel Richie's Stuck on You which hit the UK chart just 1 momth after Lionel's original did and charted higher (Lionel reached UK #12; Trevor hit UK #9)
Of the three hits he had in the UK, none of them charted in the US or Canada, which is a shame because his version of 'Stuck on You' is fantastic!
Trevor Walters charting songs:
1981 - Love Me Tonight
1984 - Stuck on You
1984 - Never Let Her Slip Away
Love Me Tonight / Stuck on You

Today, I was listening to a comparison of Stuck on You by Lionel Richie and the Trevor Walters cover. I really wish Trevor's version had charted in North America. He would have given Lionel a run for his money.
The reggae style really worked in that song. Here's the original for a comparison ...

Gah! 'Lover's Rock'...makes me shudder!
('Lover's Rock' is a catch-all term for any slow soul song adapted to a soft reggae beat...hardly a recipe for success anywhere outside of Britain, I shouldn't think...)
You can keep the two cover versions and I'll stick with 'Love Me Tonight' - happy memories of that one!
