Subject: Uncharted in America: Propaganda
Written By: whistledog on 02/28/13 at 8:31 am
Propaganda were a German pop group who were the third act signed to Trevor Horn's ZTT record label. Between 1984-1990, they charted 5 singles in the UK, 3 of which saw the Top 40. This one is Uncharted in America because despite not having big success in Canada, they did chart twice. Though they never had mainstream chart success in the US, they did garner exposure with their track p:Machinery, that was used in a 1986 episode of Miami Vice
The original lead singer was Claudia Brucken. She was replaced by Betsi Miller in 1988, after Brucken had left to form a new band called Act

Albums

Something I am often saying: You don't have to be in the Top 40 to have a recognizable song.
Sometimes, you don't even have to chart at all. I remember both Duel and Heaven Give Me Words
Non Top 40 hits FTW!

I know of 'Dr. Mabuse' but remember hearing 'Duel' at the time though had no idea what I was listening to.
Duel, to me, seemed to be in the same class as the song 'Dictator' by Centrefold. I heard it a few times in the 1980s, forgotten all about it and then recently found out who sung it:

I think I remember "Heaven give me words".

'Duel' was utterly majestic on all levels, but it probably set the bar too high for the rest of their career...

Dr Mabuse I had on a mix tape. Don't know where I recorded it from.
