Subject: Favorite Pat Benatar song
Written By: warped on 01/18/13 at 3:26 pm
What's your favorite Pat Benatar song?
Although the first 2 were released in late 1979, they were still on the charts in 1980.
Hard for me to chose. I like "You better run" and "Treat me right", "Promises in the dark", 'We belong"
Tough choice...

I'm not really into her music much, but I kind of like her song "Invincible". So ya, I choose that one!

Shadows of the Night (D.L. Byron)
Rachel Sweet did a killer version of this song on her 1981 album "And Then He Kissed Me" a year earlier than PB. Columbia didn't release it as a single. They made a grievous oversight. I think Rachel Sweet could stormed the charts with it.

"Love Is A Battlefield" is missing. Too obvious a choice?

Yes, Pat was HUGE in for the first half of the 80's, then in 1984 while promoting her Tropico album, she and her husband/guitarist discovered they were expecting, and tried to take a while off after the tour to care for their daughter. But the record company could care less about family time when Pat was such a cash machine for them, stonily demanding a seventh album hit stores before they sued her for contract breach, hence her 1985 album's title Seven The Hard Way. Pat waited on renewing her contract for a year or two, so the follow-up album Wide Awake In Dreamland was not released until 1988. Sadly, mainstream music had stylistically changed by then, so the album was only marginally as successful as her early 80's work. Since then, Pat has experimented recording with more of a Blues-based sound rather than Punk-based, but still playing the classics in concert!
Your Pal,
Doc

P.S.: Did you ever hear this? Wanting to be considered a serious and respected musician, Pat once decked a record company exec for calling her(to her face) a sex symbol!

You also missed "Anxiety (Get Nervous)". I know it wasn't a hit, but it was a single and had a video, though I think that was back in the days when a music video was filmed for every track on an album.
I like most of her songs, but I think my favourite will always be 'The Ooh Ooh Song'

I went with Hit Me With Your Best Shot, mainly because my girlfriend and my best friend (also a girl) in the 90's used to sing this song as a duet at a Karaoke bar and kicked ASS at it Everyone in the place would cheer when they sang this song. Really was a GREAT time.

I chose We Live, Shadows and Fired Up. I like We Belong and Battlefield as well but you can only choose 3. I remember watching her vids and thinking man, I want to look and dress JUST LIKE THAT when I grow up. :)

Well the dance routine in the bar reminds me of something out of West Side Story!
Oh, and if you're not in a music video, don't throw a drink in the big mean guy's face.
:o
Nobody chose "Little Too Late."
This is not the song you want your girlfriend singing to you.

I can't believe I didn't answer this yet.
Pat is one of my all-time favorites. I love so many of her songs.
My choices were: Invincible & Other: Love is a Battlefield & I'm Gonna Follow You.
Honorable Mention goes to:
Wuthering Heights, Shadows of the Night, Promises In the Dark.
Actually the one song of hers that I really don't like is Hit Me With Your Best Shot. When I went to see her in concert a few years back, she sang the song but she refused to sing one line because she hated it but let the audience sing it for her. ("Before I put another notch in my lipstick case, you better make sure you put me in my place.")

Well..."Hit Me With Your Best Shot", "Love Is A Battlefield" and "Heartbreaker" still get the heck played out of them today, and I like to listen to 'em, but my top pick (for now) is probably "Invincible".

Trivia about Pat Benatar songs:
The music video for Shadows of the Night stars then unknown actors Judge Reinhold and Bill Paxton
The music video for Love is A Battlefield features actor Trey Wilson as Pat's father. You may remember him in roles such as Nathan Arizona, father of the kidnapped baby in "Raising Arizona", as the Durham Bulls manager Joe Riggins in "Bull Durham" or as Beetroot McKinley in "Twins"
The song Hit Me With Your Best Shot was written by a Canadian singer/songwriter named Eddie Schwartz. Radio stations in Canada will often play this one because it meets CANCON qualifications. Eddie Schwartz also wrote the popular 80s songs "Don't Shed A Tear" by Paul Carrack, "The Doctor" by The Doobie Brothers, "Special Girl" by America and also had a US Top 40 hit of his own in 1982 called "All Our Tomorrows"
