I was thinking recently about things I wanted in the 80's but never had gotten.
One thing I always wanted was a black and white checkered pair of Vanns shoes like Jeff Spicoli had in Fast Times At Ridgemont High.
I actually found a pair online and recently bought them for the next 80's night I have.
Another thing was the red zipper jacket Michael Jackson wore in Thiller. They used to sell the knock offs at the department stores like JCPenny's and as a kid I wanted one bad!!
Needless to say, I won't be looking online for that particular item! LOL

I know! I still have the double album I got in the 80's. I got it on clearance for like $1! I couldn't believe my luck, although some key songs are missing off the soundtrack, most noteable Moving In Stereo by the Cars. I mean come on!! That was the single most popular scene in the whole movie for the guys anyway.

I wanted a Trans-Am or a Firebird (I forget which one now.)  Oh well, life goes on.  lol  Now I drive "Beater" cars.  I will survive.   ;)

I wanted to be in a super-cool pop band.  But since I have limited talent and am incredibly shy, never got around to being the lead singer in an awesome band.  lol  I probably would have ended up a coke addict, so it's probably for the better.   :D

I wanted an apartment in a hotel on the beach of Virginia Beach.  We stayed at the hotel once on vacation, and that was were my fantasy sprang from.  

I wanted my own Pretty in Pink/Footloose prom moment.  One where I was one of the prettiest girls there and I wanted my own slow-motion entrance.  lol  I wanted a big fluffy gown, giant hair and sparkle glitter falling from the ceiling.  yep.  Fat girl in a black dress going stag (because mom made me break up with my boyfriend a few weeks before my vocational high school prom) was about all the enthusiasm I could muster.

I wanted to live in town where all the cool kids hung out, rather than out in the middle of nowhere.  Now I can appreciate my dad's same house with hundreds of accessible acres surrounding a private lake, and it is something you would pay big bucks for today.

I got my Sony Recording Walkman.  But I wanted my tapes to look like the ones in all the prop photos, with the 3 square holes in each reel.  My friend had a few, but they were all church music soundtracks.

I wanted a BMX type bike with those plastic mag wheels.

I wanted a powered skateboard, and bike with sidecar, like on The Brat Patrol.

I wanted to solve my Rubiks cube, which I never did until I found the cheat solution.  But I was able to solve both the small and large Rubiks Magic glass puzzles.  I could do the small one in 6 seconds and the large one in I think 12 seconds.

And I wanted Punky Brewster, I thought she was cute and we were about the same age. :)

I also wanted something to come of my sketches for a 2 wheel drive bike I did in the late 80s.  I saw a cheap knockoff with a cumbersome cable about 15 years ago, but it seems Spicer Cycles pretty much has the idea I had.

Same here.  Those listed or a Mongoose, or hell back then I would have settled for one of the Huffy Pro Thunder bikes.  Never got one.

Oh yeah, I forgot about BMX bikes! I wanted a Predator or a Mongoose, I dunno why, I was a wuss when it came to jumping on my bike.
My friend was way into BMX, and would break out the bike magazines when I'd spend the night. I never really cared but would feign interest in them.
I never got a high dollar bike like that. I did get some sort of knock-off at like Wal-Mart or K-Mart or someplace like that and was happy, but I just knew those high dollar bikes would have been much better. (For my rep anyways!)

Gawd, I would say most of the Transformer action figure/robots. I was around 12 when the toys first came (1983) out and then the cartoon came out in 1984. I've always wanted the Skyfire Autobot figure, but they were expensive even in those days. I tried to collect all the G.I Joe action figures and their vehicles. I never could complete my collection. I was a huge Star Wars nut with the same dilemma. I did finally get an Atari 2600 in 1983. Funny, when 2002 rolled around and there was a glut of nostalgic toys catering to kids of the 1980s, I bought a whole bunch of Transformers(including a reissued Predacons) and Macross/Robotech for display.

I wanted a pinball machine.  I even tried to make one out of a shoebox when I was a kid.  I knew I could never get one, though. 

Of little things, I think I ended up getting the things I remember wanting even if it was decades later via eBay.  There was an issue of Record magazine that had an article on The Romantics.  It had David Lee Roth on the cover.  I wasn't a big fan of their music, but I had a crush on the singer, Wally Palmar.  My mom made out a check and I sent it in. 8 weeks later (remember how looong we had to wait for mail order items back then?) I get the wrong issue!  >:(  It had Steve Perry on the cover.  I sent it back with a note telling them they sent me the wrong one and which one I wanted.  They must not have seen the note because weeks later, I receive a letter from them inquiring as to which issue I wanted.  I sent them another letter and received nothing back  :(  I always remembered that incident.  Decades later, on a whim, I searched for it on eBay, and there it was!  Now I finally have it and it also had an article on Genesis which is one of my all-time favorite bands. 

I wanted my own Millennium Falcon so I could split the scene on hyperspace!

Because they don't keep your feet dry (or clean, if walking in an unpaved parking lot (speaking from experience)).  And because they hurt like hell (at least mine did) (Maybe I had a smaller size then I needed,  :-\\ plus mine had pointy toes which also hurt to wear.)  Not really practical.

Nah, I saw 2 whole bins of jelly shoes at the Goodwill 5 years ago for $4 a pair.  Took pictures for nostalgia sake, but really hated the holes in the shoes.  Hurt.  I'm not a pain-for-beauty type person nor have a shoe fetish, so I passed on snapping them up.

I guess the reason I never got any good at skating was that I lived on a hill as a kid, and the nearest roller skating rink was a good 12 miles away.  I ne3ver really got to go but only 3 or 4 times my whole childhood.  Mostly I skated next to the wall, edging myself along around the perimeter.  One time the rink manager grabbed my arm and skated me around, normal speed, it was the most amazing feeling.  and very kind of him.  Still remember it fondly today (30 years later)

Two cars from the 80's are my dream cars, and I still hope to get them one day... the first is a 1987 Mercedes 300E, and the second is a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am.

I also wanted Leah Thompson... but she's not a car.
