Daisy Chain - No Time to Stop Believing in Love (1984)
This reached #97 in the UK
Not quite sure where this group hails from, but it was their only enter into the UK chart
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEbyP6NrVEo

Goldie Alexander - Knocking Down Love (1982)
An entry from Canada.  It never made it out of the dance charts
Check out that SAX work.  Glenn Frey watch out!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WSTA6R0-80

Robey - One Night in Bangkok (1985)
Another entry from Canada.  This only reached #77 in the US, but was Top 10 on the Billboard Dance chart
Louise Robey is perhaps better known for her role on the syndicated 'Friday the 13th: The Series' that ran for 3 seasons in the late 80s
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIoSlM1np1M

Peter Godwin - Images of Heaven (1983)
This one peaked at #5  on the Billboard Bubbling Under chart (aka it reached US #105).  He is from the UK, but had no hits there

Two that threatened to break out from clubland in the latter half of 1983, but sadly ran out of steam...

(Reached the dizzy heights of #64 and #75 respectively, if that sort of thing turns you on!)

Those are quite excellent but the group Dayton had more hits than The Sound of Music.

In the dance chart quite possibly...but this was the only occasion they graced the 'mainstream' chart in Britain...

Dayton had a few club hits, the biggest being 'Hot Fun in the Summertime'
I have a british compilation CD called 1984 that has 'The Sound of Music' on it

"The Sound Of Music" reached #17 in the Dutch Top 40. I'd call that a hit.

Oddly enough, I know Goldie Alexander - but not from this track. "Show You My Love" got stuck in bubbling under section, at #49.

Oh wait - "Knocking Down Love" made the Dance Charts! :D ...Well, only for one week (at #39).

Pretty obscure, yes. But not as obscure as this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63davSGjNy0

Peter Godwin's biggest hit in The Netherlands. It peaked at #58. I don't think it charted in US or UK.

That is excellent news.  Seems like all the Canadian dance acts that don't have mainstream success in Canada, do find their place in Europe:  Voggue, Lime, Carol Jiani, Trans X and now Goldie Alexander

In which case, I'd imagine that you'd probably have heard of this one then...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxRqsLTYdhE

Had all the makings of a medium-sized hit, but did nothing here...'Say Yeah' was their only success!

And what do you make of this...?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6Na-63iXLI

For reasons as obscure as the names of the singers this song reached #12 in Dutch Top 40 in 1982.
I'm betting no one outside Holland has ever heard this track. :D

Can't say that I've ever heard (of) this track... :-\\ In Holland too their success was limited (no pun intended) to one hit single.

For some reason I was suddenly reminded of this one:

Stone - Time

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q6ySK11MzfI

It peaked at #26 in Holland in 1982. Not sure how it did elsewhere. And not sure if it classifies as "Dance" either. :-\\

Just FTR: that World Premiere song peaked at #1 in Dutch Dance charts. It didn't make mainstream Top 40 (or bubbling under section).

I was just checking out the Dutch Dance Top 30 for the 1980's. Man, that's RIDDLED with obscure tracks! ;D

I'll throw one more in, just because I can and there's no one else around...

Cerrone - Freak Connection

Cerrone is best known for "Love In C Minor" and "Je Suis Music", but he recorded plenty of other decent tracks - like this one.
It spent one week at #34 in the Dutch Dance Top 30.  ...Yes, #34. No kidding. ::)

Early 1985 (and doesn't it sound like it?  :P)

This did pretty well in the Hi-HRG clubs, but didn't cross over...

It's a souped-up cover of an LP track by The Nolans, of all people!  :D

That's not half bad, though any cover of a Nolans track is an improvement lol

Here's one that, depending on your taste, is either good or bad.

It's a 1983 cover of Survivor's 'Eye of the Tiger' by a very obscure group called Nightnawk.  I know not much of this other than it was a single (I have the 12" on vinyl) and that Nighthawk are Canadian

Doesn't get much more obscure than the Dave Howard Singers performing Yon Yonson (1987).  And now I hand the earworm off to you.  Please, please, make it stop!

Not sure how obscure these songs are, but I think they are relatively unknown:

I'm sure they have, as Nighthawk would have needed permission from the writers of the song (Survivor members Jim Peterik and  Frankie Sullivan) to do a cover.

Forrest was not a group, but a Dutch based American singer named Forrest Thomas.  He was perhaps best known for his 1983 covers of the Detroit Emeralds song 'Feel the Need in Me' and the Hues Corporation song 'Rock the Boat'

Here's one that's often said to have one of the best synthesizer riffs of the 80s.  I may have to agree on that ...

Rational Youth - Saturdays in Silesia (1982).  It never charted in the mainstream in Canada, but I did read once where it was popular in European clubs.
