I can only remember partial lyrics, and never knew the Artist or Title:
One time midnight came at noon
Stole the sun, sealed His doom
And hatred dealth the fatal wound
Love was fighting standing still
Evil raged and took the hill
The power reigned right from the tomb

The singer had a very distinctive voice. A little bit like Benny Hester but definitely not Benny. Had a driving tune to it, the song was a great foot-tapper.
15 years of internet searches have been unsuccessful. Any help greatly appreciated!
