Subject: 1980's TV theme songs
Written By: MrCleveland on 11/10/10 at 3:46 pm
Lately, I've been getting the kick for 1980's TV Theme Songs because if I didn't tell you, I'm thinking of making a TV Show called "Bertstown" and have it be on Adult Swim if it gets accepted as an animated show. It also features an obscure Hanna-Barbera Character if I can get the rights to do so...which is as easy as gettin an Liquor License.
But I have a few....

Karma for Mr. Belvedere!
I wonder why TV Land doesn't run that series. I'd rather see Mr. Belvedere than The Nanny. I'd rather see a train wreck than The Nanny.
Magnum P.I.
Watched it every Thursday night, 8:00 CBS!

I still like the theme from Moonlighting (when Bruce Willis had hair). I also like the theme from L.A. Law. Susan Dey (from the Partridge Family) was on L.A. Law. I forget who she played on there.

Don't forget a classic TV theme from The Fall Guy - "The Unknown Stuntman" sung by Lee Majors himself.
Gotta love all the 80s classic TV themes.

I like the themes from Just the Ten of Us and Growing Pains. Too bad Just the Ten of Us didn't last longer.

That was a fun one. The 80's had a lot of good ones.

I think the later version (1985-1986) had a different sound to it.

Family Ties, Greatest American Hero, Growing Pains and Who's The Boss haven't been listed yet - unless the YouTube vids were removed. All finely crafted music in their own right.

It sounds like they tried to modernize it a little bit (for that time). I had forgotten that Dixie Carter had left the show until I saw that.

All great themes. I'm curious to know which vids were removed from You Tube.
21 Jump Street had a cool theme in my opinion. I'm having a hard time trying to think of a bad 80's t.v. theme song ;D Most seem to be good.

Too CLOSE For Comfort. My brother and I always watched this without hesitation but we were kids and we were blissfully unaware that Ted Knight had died during the final season of the show. :\'(

30 years after his death you think they could do another Too CLOSE For Comfort? ???

I think in very much the same way that Ted Knight and Mary Tyler Moore fed off of each other he and J.J. Bullock fed off of each other. I really don't think an updated version of Too CLOSE For Comfort would work in this case because Ted Knight was the star of the show and therefore he was the backbone of the show with all of the jokes and prat falls, IE in the opening sequence when Ted did a backwards flip off of the couch because there was nowhere for him to lean back. In many instances it was Ted Knight who made the show funny. The ladies, Nancy Duussault, Deborah Valkenburg, and Lydia Cornell as well as J.J. Bullock all provided the ehh that's funny but not ha ha funny stuff.
It also depends on if the cast would want to do a remake too. I'm not sure that they would because of the absence of Ted Knight.
But the problem is trying to find an actor that could portray Ted Knight, I don't know if anyone can. ???

No I don't think that's possible because like I said Ted fed off of the energy of his co-stars and it's very hard to find another actor that has that kind of comedic timing and can read all of the jokes and do the prat falls like he could.
That's how unique an actor Ted Knight was. He had perfect comedic timing but he also handled all of the jokes and prat falls like pro. That's how irreplacable he was and that's what made the Mary Tyler Moore Show and Too CLOSE For Comfort so funny.
Nowadays you would be lucky to find an actor who has such perfect comedic timing and could feed off of his co stars like Ted Knight could. That's just the way that I see it.

I was reading in The Daily News that Ted McGinley might consider being in a Happy Days remake, that's if Henry Winkler is considering at his age dying his hair jet black and donning the leather jacket again.

They would also have to take into account the notable absence of Tom Bosley, Al Molinaro, and Pat Morita as well as director Garry Marshall. I'm sure that if she wanted to Penny Marshall could take his place but would it be as funny as how Gary made it? IDK? Also the kids, Ron Howard, Anson Wilson, Don Most, Erin Moran, and Scott Baio are all grown up so they may not be as "cute" as they once were. Erin was 13 when she started on the show and Ron was 20.
Anson was 25 he's now 67
Donnie was 21 he's now 63
Scott was 14 he's now 56
Ted was 16 he's now 58
Henry was 29 he's now 71
So I'm not quite sure if that would work unless they included any children on the show? Ron's daughter made her acting debut in the Transformers movie.

Surely a remake implies new actors playing the old characters

Then how about if they brought in kid actors and have the original actors portray Mothers and Fathers all grown up to children of their own?
