Subject: Friend hosting '80s night...need costume tips?

One of my friends randomly has these parties doing a different year each time. So far she's had 1976, 1952, & 1998. She decorates the dining room and tries to serve authentic foods and everyone is supposed to come dressed the part. Next week she's having 1984 party. what should I wear? I'm a 20 something gal by the way.

The 80s year kinda blend into one another for me. I was a Freshman in high school then so I remember polo shirts with stripes, jeans jacket and jeans with leg warmers worn on the legs of the jeans. Mousse and Gel were rather popular (think BIG hair). Slogan t-shirts were apparently popular (but not at my school, but then I come from a small town so... ) (Look at stuff that Wham! wore in the video "Wake me up before you go go" for examples of this.
I guess if you want to go radicial 80s, you can always do

I'm trying to remember what I was wearing in 1984, just like bookmistress the years all blend together.
In the 80's I remember big hair, neon, big earrings, the Flashdance sweatshirt, the preppy look and lots more.
I remember wearing penny loafers, a tennis style sweater(deep v-neck) and pants tight rolled at the ankles.
There was also the rocker look, band t-shirt, denium jacket with all kind of band pins, ripped jeans, ankle boot with a bandana tied around the ankle.
New wave look, oversized suit jacket (rolled sleeves) and a brooch on the lapel, short plaid skirt and black tights, lace up boots (combat style), black rubber bracelets. Sunglasses and a hat of some sort.
