Subject: Pick a Track From These Two Albums...
Written By: apollonia1986 on 04/24/09 at 9:06 pm
Hi Everybody.
As many of you know, I'm a 80's fanantic and also a huge admirer of Michael Jackson and Prince. That being said, I'd like to propose a scenario and a question:
Picture it: It's 1984 and Friday night. You and your girls (or boys) are out for a night on the town at the trendiest club in town. You pull up in your coolest outfit, and hit the door of the club.
The minute you enter the club, you hear the DJ playing the Thriller Album.
Question ONE:
What song would you love to hear playing and dance to?
After the MJ song plays, the DJ throws on some Prince and Purple Rain Album.
Question TWO:
What song from that album would keep you dancing before you hit the bar for your Harvey Wallbanger?
Now I"ll be fair and answer first.
I'll dance my booty off to "Billie Jean" and keep up for round two with "Darling Nikki"!
LOL Please aswer everyone!

Haha though I love them, I'm not sure if I'd want to dance to either at a club... HOWEVER...
Thriller - "Wanna Be Startin Something" (I actually did dance to remixes of this in the 90s)
Prince - "Let's Go Crazy" (I only know the singles from Purple Rain)

For Thriller, it would have to be 'Billie Jean'. Inside the club would probably be a lighted floor, so I could mimic the sidewalk part in the video
For Purple Rain, it would have to be 'When Doves Cry' because it's the one I most liked of the least. I was not a Prince fan in the 80s. 1999 was the only 80s album he had that I liked

I'd prefer to get close to her - Human Nature...
Staying conventional - When Doves Cry. These were popular songs at my high school dances that year. If it was good enough then, it's good enough now...
Another slow jam - Purple Rain. Then it's dinner and margaritas at my place...

Although I have no idea how one could dance to When Doves Cry. Awkward, mid-tempo song...

Human nature - Michael Jackson ( I think it's his best song)
Let's go Crazy - Prince (great song from the latter part of the summer of 1984. It flows well)

My personal favorite from both are "Beat It" and "I Would Die 4 U" if we're talking about totally upbeat songs. I've never been much a clubbing type of guy, but if I were that's what I'd do.
Actually "Billie Jean" and "Human Nature" are my favorites from Thriller, but it wouldn't be a good for dancing. Well BJ might, it's upbeat enough.

HeyY'all!
I'm seeing some interesting answers!
And Davester, you CAN dance to When Doves Cry. I do every time I play the Purple Rain album. (which is like once a week) I do the dance that Prince and the Revolustion did near the end of the video.
Just a side note--did anyone notice that aside from splits, Prince CAN'T dance? :o

From "Thriller" - "Wanna Be Startin' Something" and "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)".
From "Purple Rain" - "Let's Go Crazy" and "I Would Die 4 U".
It's so hard to choose just one from each album! :D

"P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)"
I have found new appreciation for the greatness of PYT! It was always a bit cheesy in the 80s, but it's sheer feelgood brilliance now.

If it were the trendiest club in town the DJ would play "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" and at the breakdown at "mama say mama sa ma ma coo sa" he'd mix in "When Doves Cry". 8)

I'd have probably 'nodded' my head to 'Thriller' itself, but would have gone to the toilet if Prince were played! :P
(Funnily enough, that's probably where you'd find both gentlmens' careers nowadays! :D)

As for the Michael Jackson album, I'd have probably gotten up and danced to 'Billie Jean'...
...and for Prince, it has to be 'Let's Go Crazy'! I loved dancing to that one back in the day! :D

For all of y'all that picked Let's Go Crazy as your jam, you NEED to check out the "Special Dance Mix" of the song. It's the same one that played in the opening scene of Purple Rain. It's on the Ultimate Prince CD.
And all my Billie Jean Lovers, you have danced until you jammed to the remix if the song on the Thriller 25 album.
(^^am I promoting^^ :( )

Wanna Be Starting Somthin' and ummm, Purple Rain.
BTW, no offense but that Kimona lady makes me sick. She is a serious b-i-t-c-h and she hasnt accomplished anything HERSELF. Oh, she married Russell Simmons (who is a hip hop community god), but that doesn't justify Kimona being an evil bitch.
