I recognize a lot of these shows...they used to air on Nickelodeon. I used to love: Today's Special, Under the Umbrella Tree, The Elephant Show, Fred Penner's Place, Circle Square, You Can't Do That On Television, and My Pet Monster. :)

I recognize none of these... Americans are such TV snobs. I wonder how they ever managed to sneak Degrassi in (well besides the fact that it was freakin' awesome)

I keep watching the Circle Square clip.  Dang, that bring back memories
Those comments people put on it made me laugh.  Looking back now, it does seem like a cheesy show, but when I watched it in the 80s, it was a fun show, and you didn't have to be religious to watch it

That Marci chick in the show is a newsreporter now.  Marci Ien, host of the national morning show Canada AM on CTV.  I knew I recognized her from somewhere

The Raccoons and Littlest Hobo were great too.

I've only seen some episodes of You Can't Do That On Television.

Does anyone remember "Ramona" (based on the Beverly Cleary books), which starred a young Sarah Polley? It was shown here on PBS in the late 80's. I believe the show was Canadian produced.

I do remember that one yes.  It was a Canadian show, but it was not a success, running for not even half a season.  Even though it was short-lived, Sarah Polley got a Gemini (Canada's version of an Emmy) nomination for Best Actress in a Dramatic Role

Polley went on to greater success on the Anne of Green Gables follow-up series 'Road to Avonlea' but for me, her greatest role was in the 1999 film 'Go'.

Yes, we are snobs, but, honestly Nickelodeon ALWAYS played You Can't Do That On Television.  I used to watch that religiously with the Tomorrow People (which I think was British).  There was also a teen talk show on Nickelodeon hosted by a middle-aged guy with blonde or white hair.  Anyone remember this show?

Here's a few other kids shows that were made / produced in Canada during the 80s ...

Care Bears
Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin
Read All About It
Inspector Gadget

and here's a bit of interesting trivia which I have before mentioned ...

While Don Adams was in Canada doing voice work for Inspector Gadget, he was offered the lead role in a Canadian sitcom.  The resulting show "Check it Out" ran 3 seasons between 1985-1988 and was seen in America on the USA Network

Polka Dot Door, ReadAlong (though I know it's from the 70's), Today's Special, Elephant Show

I forgot all about my Pet Monster, that was an awesome show! Cartoons were so good back then, even if I wasn't a fan of all the shows.

My Pet Monster (Canadian child actor Sunny Besen Trasher who played Paul on 'The Edison Twins' was the voice of Max on 'My Pet Monster')

That's because he also played Max in the 1986 live action straight-to-video "My Pet Monster", which would then become a weekly cartoon.

I met Fred Penner in the early 2Ks, told him I used to watch the show back in the '80s when I was a child.  TV makes him look small, he towered over me and I'm 5'11.

Just some kids trying to do what they should
They're growing up in their neighbourhood
oh they're up the street and around again
They're called The Edison Twins

Now everyday is a different trial
and they pull through with a lot of style
always getting out of trouble
that they get in
Life with the Edison Twins

And if you use your head
you'll always win
You know  The Edison Twins

Oh no two days are quite the same
life is just a learning game
and if you use your head
you'll always win
Just like The Edison Twins.  :)

The last time I saw The Edison Twins was on Show Case TV in Canada and before that it was on YTV and before that it was on the CBC.  I'm not absolutely positive who owns the rights to the show.  I guess in time Nelvana or whoever owns the rights to the show will release it on DVD when the time is right.  But I really miss this show being on TV so I suggested it to Teletoon Retro.  I hope they'll get the broadcasting rights for thsi.

I saw a recent photo of it a few years back, but they wouldn't disclose the location. These photos are from 2007.

Original run 1974 – 1986

In 2003 a pilot for a new version of Circle Square called Circle Square Network (CSN) was produced by Crossroads, but was never picked up.
