Subject: Your 80s Face!

Written By: apollonia1986 on 09/08/08 at 7:29 pm

Hi Everyone!  ;D

I really love the look of 80s make up (even thought it could get to be outrageous at times LOL). And I know that a lot of the members here "came of age" in the 80s. What I want to know is, if you wore make up during the decade, what was your look? Blue maascara? Frosted pink lipstick? A painted on Madonna mole?

Even though I wasn't born in the 80s, I actually copy the look my mother had: Silver/grey eyeshadow, thick-ish black eyeliner, black mascara, blush and clear gloss.  :)

Please share everyone!

I'm guilty of all the above mentioned make-up madness except for the silver eyeshadow.  To be fair, I do have a beauty mark near my mouth, I just enhanced it a bit  ;)

black mascara, black eyeliner on the inner and white eyeliner on the outer side of the lower lashes.  Three shades of silver grey eye shadow.  pale all over the lid (almost to the eyebrow), mid grey on the eye area and dark grey in the socket.  dark-ish red lipstick.

Light blue eyeshadow, very little blush, black eyeliner and the ever present Bonnie Bell lip gloss.

Hey Guys!

All that make up sounds pretty good. Now I must admit, I am crazy about eyeshadows. I love Eyeshadow. I have so many it's ridiculous.  ;D I really pleased that the 80s look is making a comeback because I am totally into it. I wear up to three (four on occasion) shadows. And while grey is one of my faves, I love purple eyeshadow. Purple and pink lol. I have brown eyes so the purple works pretty okay.  ;) (I think part of the reason I like Prince is because I can wear purple shadow with his shirts) LOL If I see a look I like, I copy it. (I got  the pink/purple combo from Prince LOL)

I really like the look of some of the shadow Apollonia wore back in the day, and I'm trying to master the look.  :)

(If anyone has any tips on the shadow, PLEASE lemme know! LOL)

My best friend claims I wear alot of blush like her...I don't think I do.  :(  ;D

Please share more y'all!  :)

I never went too crazy with the makeup, did wear black eyeliner on the inside of my eye.  Anyone remember Kissing Potion lip gloss? lol!

Cover Girl have a pallette of purple shadows at the moment (for enhancing brown eyes it says on the display).  For the Apollonia make up (first picture) you probably need two shades of purple and a darkish grey.
And then follow these instructions

Cool looks!

And thanks  Karen for the tips! (karma)  :) Trust me, I have about 7 different shades of purple shadow, light and dark, mettalic and matte. LOL. And a ton of grey!  ;)

I noticed something amusing. The tips said to keep the rest of the face simple when you have bold eyeshadow, and I notice that Apollonia is wearing a strong red lip with the shadow. LOL.

Thanks for the help.

Another trend I noticed for fall and that I LOVE is colored eyeliner.  ;D I bought a ton of pencils and like Prince sang, "Let's go Crazy...let's get nuts!..."  8)

Since I wore/wear makeup for fun (not everyday) I would often "play" with my makeup.

Mostly I did purple eyeshadow (with light purple/white shadow under brow), pink (kinda bubblegum) lipstick

Sometimes I would do an emerald green eyeliner pencil, with a matching eyeshadow on the lid, and something light (usually a gold mixed with light white/beige to lighten it up).  Yeah I just experimented with colors and techniques till I found something I liked.

Sometimes I'd do a brown eyeshadow with a peach highlight under the brown.

Since I am fair-skinned, and was blond back then, I couldn't usually do black mascara (too harsh for my coloring) so I'd do black/brown or navy.  They used to suggest in the makeup magazines that navy eyeliner pencil in the rim would make the whites of your eyes look whiter.  I always had bloodshot eyes since even then I had trouble sleeping, so I would often try the blue in the rim trick.

I rarely used blush, I just couldn't get it to look right on me.

When I really was daring and experimental, I'd use this bright lilac lipstick.  It was...different.  I'd never wear it now, as I tend to like to blend into the background, not draw attention to myself.

I think I had that book (Your 80s face) and yes there was some really...interesting/shocking makeup styles in there.

I was still a little too young to wear make-up in the 80's but I liked to experiment with all those brightly colored Wet N' Wild lipsticks with my friends.  ;D

I'm a guy and I've even worn eyeliner (I'll find the pictures again! ;D ), but that was only recently.

I was way too young for anything that back then, though. Anything I did before like '93ish was basically just kids stuff.

My makeup today looks pretty much the same as back in HS (I graduated in '87) except I don't wear eyeshadow all the way up to my brows any more. I still like purples and browns and gold, and plenty of eyeliner all around the outside rim of the eye, which is either blue, moss green, or black, depending on my eyeshadow. Plenty of black mascara (Loreal Voluminous is my fave). Usually my lips are frosty pink or a soft maroon color. I don't really bother with blush because it doesn't look right and since my eyes are dramatically done, I think blush would be overkill. Does anyone remember the little rollers with sparkly gel in them? Yes I remember Kissing Potion...kind of gloppy going on but tasted good. I never was much of a gloss fan-I like lipstick.
